Are you suggesting GM are plotting some kind of 1984esque control over the masses?

Coincidence or too much caffeine , but GENERAL MOTORS spelled backwards is "Srotom lareneg" , an obscure Vorlon quote that translated into Latin reads "Novus ordo secorum " that translated into English is........"NEW WORLD ORDER". NOW - "ON STAR" , also spelled backwards in English , not Vorlon , reads - hold on - "RATS NO". DO YOU NOT SEE IT ? ARRGGHHH ! Check the wiring on your bike CLOSELY! LUCAS ! Imagine if they had this when OJ was driving down the 5 and he had a GM blazer instead of a bronco. What would people have watched on TV for that many hours. This could seriously ruin the ratings on cops!

But Wade sir! My resonator WAS made by the RENHOLTZ CORPORATION of Walla Walla, Washington!!!
YOU must have one of those vastly inferior Helmholtz models manufactured in the Yangchow province of China, a rather cheap ripoff of the RENHOLTZ model, which are still proudly made by AMERICANS(okay so much of the workforce there are now "newly arrived workers" from the state of Chihuahua Mexico, but let's not split hairs here) in as I stated above, beautiful WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON!!!
AND BESIDES, I understand those chinese-made Helmholtz models are chock-full o' LEAD too!!!
So THERE!!!

Makes me wonder if all those people who are so up in arms about terror suspects being watched will have any worries about the government tracking all our movements using GPS on our vehicles ostensibly so they can tax us. I wonder if all private citizens being tracked by the IRS or the state department of revenue is more benign than Osama’s buddies being watched by the FBI or the NSA?
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

yup...call me paranoid...call me a nut job...call me a conspiracy theorist...but in as much as I see the huge benefits to the airbag deployment sensor...and the help at the touch of a button part....I can't help but think I'm being tracked...all the time....the gps in my phone is enough thanks...even if it's just for junk mail and spam "target marketing" I don't like the idea that they can listen in unknown...or track my location unknown....not that they do.... soooo I guess I am a paranoid-nut-job-conspiracy-theorist

There are subscription alarm systems that track your vehicle when you report it stolen that cost a lot less. One of the neat features of onstar is that if a thief can find out your pass code, they can call in and get your car doors unlocked, saving them a lot of trouble.
There are non-subscription alarms that can ground your ignition coil or shut off your fuel after letting the engine run just long enough to get into a conspicuous location so the thief is likely to assume that it just broke down and run away rather than try to fix it.
I have a couple of large dogs who hate strangers and have access to my garage, so I don't have to worry much at home.

We didn't renew the Onstar in my wife's truck, never used it. Seems like a waste of wiring to me. Tony Soprano always takes out all that stuff when buying a new car, he doesn't trust that stuff either (actual story line from a few seasons back).

Having Onstar is enough. Big Brother doesn't need to you to activate it. They can. Same with lowjack.

Yeah Al, that's a start, but I hope you know that Big Brother can still track us down unless we ALSO stop wearin' our pointed alumium foil hats that fends off those gamma rays coming from the planet Xytron!!! (but I suppose one has to "pick their poison", huh?!)

Never give up the foil hats, you definitely want the mother ship to get your location when it comes. (and I did say when not if...) Quote:

It doesn't matter to me anyway, GM lost me as a potentional customer when they stopped selling manuals trannys in pickups. Now this is standard, not much of a trade off in my opinion. Not to mention 30 or something a month.

Okay Dill, but why would you want to row through a shifter on a pickup when all you have to do is put that sucker in drive with an automatic? (my Chevy Silverado has an automatic, as you can probably tell) And besides, everyone knows that a manual transmission is only fun to use when it's attached to a sportscar! (such as say a...550 Spyder!...for instance)

In that case, I'll call the people at Reynolds and Alcoa and have them ramp up their operation to maximum output!

Why does one have to be misbehaving to worry about being watched, tracked, monitored, or otherwise surveiled, without giving prior consent??? So I guess it's OKAY if they invade your privacy, or otherwise monitor your actions, without consent...after all...if I've done nothing wrong then I have nothing to worry about right...
When I go to a Wal-Mart a bank...or any of the other places listed I'm aware that I'm being monitored prior to my entering the store...with onstar...you can be monitored (including any and all in vehicle conversation...or other sounds that may emanate from the rear of larger more roomy models ) without my permission...or my being aware...
Of course they SAY they will never do that...but then the black box in your car will NEVER be used against you either...and if you put your tooth under your pillow a little winged lady will put some $ under your pillow and take your tooth...Oh and some fat guy flies a sled and fits down your chimney to fill your stockings with stuff...
