Was wondering what the loudest, best performance enhancing pipes are on the market?
Spectors, D&D, Bub, TOR, Thunderpipes, Speciality Spares etc..
Would be great to see a dyno chart and sound byte for each pipe all done on a standard setup bike. A lot to ask for I know.

Heck, what the day be like without a loud pipe question anyway?

what are you most concerned with, how loud they are or how well they perform? or are you looking for a little of both

Both actually. I ride LA freeways, loud pipes help others hear you coming. Along with that I don't want to compromise performace for sound, hence my question: Loudest and Best performance.

Sceptres are the answer to all of you questions. The reason is simple: I paid $600 for mine, so I refuse to believe they are anyhting but the best!

Sceptres are the loudest, hands down. Good performers and I hate riding behind them!

My take, and I've heard them all.
Loudest to quietest list as follows:
Sceptres
everything else......

Way louder than the rest. Only the D&D's come even close, and they're down the dB chain quite a bit.

Want to set off car alarms a block away?
Want to instill the rath of your neighbors upon your person?
Want every cop in town to know who you are?
Want to be heard 10 minutes before you get there?
Sceptres.

A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice. Pat

The sceptres really are melodic. Especially when riding along side someone else who has them. They get a harmonic resonance going that will have you thinking, “What in the he!! is going on here?” Memory courtesy of the ride to Robert’s town and Vinton’s sceptres.

Loud? I would have to say my fishtails without the extra baffles I put in.

I imagine any pipe with a removable baffle would the the "loudest". I pulled the baffles from my Specialty Spares long cannons and they are CRAZY loud. As in "neighbors come over and tell you about it loud", set car alarms off loud. Actually I set a few alarms off now and then with my baffled Cannons, albeit with 30% reduction in the fiberglass packing material. I can't imagine anything being as loud as straight pipes. I guess you could completely remove the baffles in a stock pipe (snekpete did) and they would be loud. The 3" echo chamber of the empty Long Cannons would be louder I suspect.
OF course therein lies your dilemma - straight pipes don't offer the same performance as pipes with back-pressure.

Well, it seems we narrowed down the few choices for loudest. Now its the performance section of the query.

Crickets, crickets

The answer would be nobody knows because nobody dyno's their bikes here

Bub slash cuts, 61.9 HP with stock carburation. 64.0 HP after snorkle removal and rejet to 122.5 I think it was, and 1 needle shim. (72 HP after waxing and the seat of my pants says at least 85 HP).

I'd probably be embarassed to see my results, I'm sure they are less than we assume. You still coming up on Sunday? It looks like one DC RAT has decided to come with me (and my brother on his ZRX).

Epcos are a good compromise. Good power gain, good sound, moderately loud, and moderate price. Going down a street near home, the hotrod Piglet sets off 5 car alarms with gutless pipes, the Triumph sets off 3 with unmodified Epcos. They are just below the start getting tickets threshold.

They have mellowed with age or I have suffered significant hearing loss. The bleeding from the ears has stopped, but they still set off car alarms. My harley buds make me ride in the rear as they can't stand the noise.

L&D Triumph in Dover Delaware obtained a dyno reading of 65 rwhp on a 2004 speedmaster with Specialty Spares long slash cut mufflers. 45 pilot jets 128 mains no needle shims and a stock airbox. You should be able to gain a few more hp by using a free flow air filter. As for loudness these mufflers have removable baffles that allow you to adjust the sound to suit your taste. Take the baffles out and they will rattle windows.

You will find after market pipes will give readings of 64hp regardless of brand, the TOR pipes will be slightly less. K&N filters will gain you about 2hp on average and you will have to re-dyno to jet for those properly. There will be some with slightly higher or lower readings, but then your bike will be slightly higher or lower day to day also. You can sift through the archives and find results from when people did dyno. The attached link is a good article if you have not read it before. web page

Cat - try this link: http://www.bubent.com/

Are Bubs loud? Last week I parked across the street from a pub. I'd pulled a U turn in the middle of the street and cracked the throttle a couple times. This guy comes racing out the open door of the pub lookin like he wants to complain.

We stared at each other for a minute. He goes back in.

Temper, temper...

I personally run after market harley sportster pipes with little to no baffle, these are very loud as all my riding buddies tell me and yes they do set of car alarms and ****** the neighbours, yes I have had letters in the mail to get the bike checked as it is to loud so I slip the stockies on and get it tested.
