Hey BT! That Zillow picture you posted of your home reminded me of that "controversy" that somebody created last week about that U.S. Naval building that looks like a swastika from space.

Well, I took it upon myself to Zillow the I.R.S. Building in D.C., and you know what? From space, that particular building looks like one giant SCREW!!!

Who'd a' known!

(figured that's ONE TOPIC we ALL could find some consensus in around here, huh?!)

Yeah, didn't it make you wonder that the architects could look at the plans and not see that?

Just let me clear up I am a southern gentelman ( or how ever its spelled) I treat everyone with respect, I dont judge people befor I know them ( I assume all are stupid until they prove it so lol) I honor my heritage but I am not a gun toting, rebel flag waving, uneducated hill billy.

+1
I do, however, wish my neighbors would actually learn their own history prior to spouting the heritage chant.
BTW BT, the fabled Mason-Dixon line doesn't extend past the Ohio river, you westerners don't qualify as Yankees, no matter how far north you are

Well now I feel left out Ed.
No stereotype nickname for Westerners?
A lot of us refer to anyone east of the continental divide as "Yankees" completely disregarding the MD line.

You see, you're sort'a wrong in a way, Mate. That's the ONE THING holdin' us all together in the Good Ol' U.S. of A...Ignorance! Or maybe it's apathy! That runs a close second around here too, ya know.

What is this Top Gear Show? I thought it was hilarious! An 'irony deficiency' , cracks me up!

Best. Car. Show. On. TV.

BBC America. New episodes on Mondays I think, with repeats on Saturday.

where I'm at, we consider anyone more than hours drive north a "Yankee".

LOL.

Gotta tell everyone, I have enjoyed this thread. I was born and raised a country boy in nowhere Texas. I have lived in 6 other states in the US and in in two other countries. EVERYTHING in this thread is TRUE. This has spurned an idea to start a thread about where you have lived....

Oooh, geography! Which Continental Divide, sir? I live west of one divide just as you do...
I tried to think of anything I might have heard in over 30 years of traveling and I don't believe I know a generic slang term for Westerners...of course many folks aroound here consider anything west of the Mississippi a foreign country

Well, my own geocentric terminology refers to the Rocky Mountains, aka the Great Divide, as the Continental Divide.

I like SOUTHERN LIVING . I have a subscription . It is published in Birmingham ( not England ) . It is the quintessential mag of the South . Have a beer , stop fighting , go for a ride or decorate .

Oh, that one
Well, it's true you know, round heah, we consider folks east of the divide and north of Virginia to be Yankees, too
Gotta admit, though, I like most of 'em

And completely unfairly too..I know at least the Arizona and Oregon Territories were on the side for State's rights during the War of Northern Aggression, and some minor engagements were fought out here in the West.

And I've seen many areas in most of the Western states that are pretty darn "southern".

Those of us in the Northwest have earned several nicknames, one has been mentioned from time to time on this site and I have heard it before... Mossbacks. Personaly I think it's pretty funny. But as you know we don't tan, we rust.

Oh, unfairly indeed since I was referring to all areas of th U.S. east of the Great Divide with no respect to North or South.
And, well, since the North was victorious..................

(Wonder what can-o-worms that'll open)

Heck, even Nevada's motto "Battle Born" is a reference to being granted statehood during the Civil War (or WNA) to give the North more seats in congress.

Yankee is just handy, since like Westerners, Easterners really have no encompassing stereotypical nickname.
I'm open for a better one .

Yep, we don't really have a good East-of-the-Mississippi or West-of-the-Mississippi term, do we? I wouldn't, however, advise calling any of the residents of my neighborhood "Yankees" as a general rule

We get a lot of the "beware the banjo" stuff around here but I wonder if you western folk remember this: Banjo
puts a new twist on "Dueling Banjos"

Little known history:
The very same telegram sent in 1969 saying, "Come back to Hollywood, Clint. We were wrong.", was also sent to Lee Van Cleef, but he liked the native Tuscan Chianti much too much to respond to it, and thus his film career never quite reach the same heights as did Mr. Eastwood's.

(but word is, he did have the coolest darn Vespa in town!)
