Saw this Airoh TR1 helmet reviewed on WebBike World. And since I like things that are a little different and out of the ordinary, I thought it was pretty cool (of course, I like the Roof Boxer V helmet and Roof Rover helmets too).

What's interesting about this helmet is the removable chin guard, which turns it into a 3/4 helmet. It's not sold in America, so it's not DOT approved, but it meets all the equivilant European standards.

The color in the review isn't the ideal choice, but it does come in various other colors, including mat black and a General Lee version.

Looks like the MOMO fighter helmet on steroids.

...roger tower; transformer taxi to runway six niner, over

Looks cool but a mixed review, do you have to make the space ship door sounds when you pull the chin out? "pssSSSSHHHHhhh"

...yes, that is a single seat...no, I will not put the other seat on...yes, I am selfish...yes, you should buy your own bike

I'm bummed.

Ever since I saw this helmet, I wanted it. When my wife asked what I wanted for Christmas, this is what I showed her. She told me to go ahead and buy it myself, since I knew where to get it, etc.

So I placed an order with Bikegear UK which is mentioned in the review. There was a shipping option for Airmail International for $39, so that's what I chose (there was also an option to request a quote for freight/international shipping). The next business day, I got an email requesting an additional $40 for shipping to the U.S.

Long story short, the Airmail International shipping isn't an option for shipping helmets, and $80 USD is the cheapest they could ship it to the U.S. I decided to cancel the order.

It wasn't the extra $40 that bothered me, just the principle behind having to pay extra after placing the order.

On the positive side, Bikegear UK was really responsive to my questions on why it was more and once I canceled, refunded my payment in full almost immediately.

I emailed my experience to Webbikeworld and it sounds like they may put my email up in the user comments section.

Who knows, in the future I may still order the helmet if I can't find another source, but at least I'll know going in the amount it will cost to ship.

Now this clears up the funds for the Tourmaster heated vest for Christmas...

I ordered the TR1 helmet from Bikergear UK my shipping cost was about the same. Recieved mine in 5 days shiped to Alabama. They emailed me the price of shipping before it was shipped. I like mine, I wanted something different and it is !! Like Webbikeworld said, people do stare at this helmet.

Glad to hear you like yours and the order went smoothly. I'm still debating on ordering it again. I found an eBay seller in Italy that will ship to the U.S. and cost would be about the same as what I "thought" I was going to be paying at Bikegear UK. The seller has good feedback and I've contacted one of the U.S. buyers to see how the transaction went, and they have a thumbs up.

The reason I'm debating it, is because I'm really interested in the Tour Master heated gear that has just come out. I think that would a better purchase at this point in time since I really don't need a new helmet.
