G'day members,

Have a Triumph Workshop Manual for Bonney/Thrux/America/SM, P/n T3859909-1, Issue 4, 10.2004

Checked the cam timing specs for the 790cc America/SM in Chapter1, Page 13 - General Information, states:

IO 19* btdc, IC 43* abdc, duration 228*, this duration is wrong, should be 242*
EO 37* bbdc, EC 11* atdc, duration 216*, this duration is wrong, should be 228*

Does anyone have the earlier versions of the Workshop Manuals, that shows this cam timing spec??

Is there a later version of this Workshop Manual, with these specs??

Anyone with the Haynes Manual, please post the specs for the 790cc America/SM

Thanks..............agro

Hello Agro,

I have the same Triumph service manual as you. Why do you say the durations are wrong? The durations you say "should be" (242/228) are called out for the 360deg Bonneville/T100 790's, not our bikes.

I also own the Haynes manual. I must be blind as I can not see this information called out anywhere in that manual.

Anyone else?

Regards,

Tom

My Triumph shop manual gives 790cc cam durations of 228/216 for the America/Speedmaster and 242/236 for the Bonneville/T-100...

Under the 790 America/SM column states Intake duration 228 degrees and Ex duration 216 degree, but by the valve timing events quoted the duration should be 242* & 228*

What i wanna know is which is correct; the valve timing events quoted or the durations quoted??

If the durations quoted are correct, then the valve timing events are wrong.

Cheers..............agro

Grey beard posted these cam timing specs a while ago........

The 790 cams are:
inlet, 19 before, 43 after
Exhaust, 31 beore, 5 after.

RAT forum member posted these specs...........

Specs for Bonneville America 790cc from Issue 2 - 03.2002
Intake
Open - 19deg btdc
Close - 43deg abdc
Duration - 242deg
Exhaust
Open - 46deg bbdc
Close - 20deg atdc
Duration - 246deg

(All are measured at 1.0mm lift, per Manual)

The math works out ok re: Triumph's published duration, using this version of the manual.

Cheers...................agro
