Paul - I didn't respond to this initially because I thought that someone who's actually had the problem might provide some suggestions.
Since that hasn't happened, I'll tell you what little I know.
The bushings (seals?) are actually a fairly tough plastic (nylon?).
The challenge would seem to be getting some sort of lubrication up inside the shrouds.
Aerosol grease/lube?
Lithium grease on a flux brush?
Maybe drop shrouds for better access from both ends.
Pump forks or go for a ride when done.
