Out for a nice ride this morning, bike running great. Came home to change jackets, pulled in garage, turned engine off. Couple of minutes later, started up, and back out on road but it's backfiring like crazy! Back home and pulled into garage, and see a vacuum cap (aka squirrel condom) on garage floor! It was split almost half way, but put it back on (carb) and rode to O'Reilly's and bought new caps. Replaced three (one's used by the ScottOiler) while in the parking lot. Bike running great again. Need to put these on my maintenance check list. Looks like 4 years is a little past their useful life, especially since the one that was split is one that I remove to balance carbs.
Have no idea what caused the cap to come off, and just lucky that I saw it when pulling back into garage...made for a quick fix!
Just an fyi...ride safe.
