Since our old buddy 'Backtolife' no longer posts much, I feel compelled to share some ramblings.
1. Holy crap – That rally concept is surely a good one. 2. Wherever one finds Triumphs, good folk abound 3. I can't wait for another road trip. It was like a drug – a real good drug 4. I should have partaken in more off-the-saddle jawing time 5. I won't forego extended BS sessions the next time around. Campfire time is as valuable – quite possibly more - as riding time. 6. Cold air is always cold, but warm air can get cold when you move fast enough 7. Hard cider ain't my cup of tea – No matter how much I like the guy that made it. I drank two full glasses to be sure. 8. One cannot stop too frequently when on a road trip. There's a lot to be taken in that can't be appreciated at speed. Stop, smell the roses. 9. People who partake in road trips form a special bond 10. Some ladies are far better riders than I'll ever be. I met one. 11. Some say it ain't the destination, it’s the ride – Well, sometimes it neither. Sometimes its about those you've shared the journey 12. Remember that life ain't "all about the money". You'll miss too much if that's your main concern 13. For me, group riding still sucks, but it sucks a whole lot less when you're with people you really like. 14. I'm still stuck in a New York Frame of Mind 15. I really hope for and look forward to a Georgia Rally 16. Fully loaded bikes with dead batteries are hard to push up hill 17. The County Road numbering concept sucks 18. My ****** is still semi flat 19. People who go out of their way to host these things surely qualify for sainthood 20. Every ride holds the possibility of making contact with at least one asshat in a car. There's little sense in getting overly ****** about it. Just be thankful you escaped in one piece. 21. Wind noise bothers me more than any other noise 22. Surprisingly, wine country smells far more like cattle dung than grapes 23. Equally surprisingly, NY's dung smells far better than PA's carrion 24. I came home at least a week too soon 25. The thing you pack at the bottom is the thing you'll need first 26. There were many nice pictures taken and posted. However, this rally is one example where pictures cannot represent the truly magnificent beauty of the 'Fingers'. 27. If you missed the night sky and all those clearly visible stars – well that's just too bad. 28. I need far more rest than I once did 29. I'll get that rest some other time 30. Its more than a man/machine appreciation - I really love this ol' Speedmaster

Barry, It was good to finally meet you. Sorry we didn't get much time to shoot the... what we smelled on them country roads. It was like perfume to me! Means I'm away from the rat race. As at all the 5 rallys I've been to, I had a BLAST! Your ramblings were great! Uncle Charlie

I find myself fully agreeing with all of your posts. I happened to have lunch today with some friends in the "next town over", the bearded, ponytail guy is from the Finger Lakes region. He is living in van, not down by the river, but behind the USDA building. Told him I recently saw beautiful pictures of his homeland and now it's on my list of have-to-sees

Well done...

It seems to have brought out the photographer in me. Rob has a great talent for the written word. I wish I did, but the time-out holds me back. Uncle Charlie

I'm still enjoying it, Terry. There hasn't been a day I haven't wished I was still there or at least somewhere in between. Heck, even the 29 miles between Crosby and Coudersport I slept through were better than coming to work on Monday.

You must have been sleeping. We weren't anywhere near Coudersport... I believe you were drivin' with your eyes closed during our detour down 46 - between Smethport and Emporium. Although you scared the livin crap outta me, I'd ride with you and Terry anytime... after you have your nap, of course.

What? No Coudersport? - Emporium you say? Ah, yeah - Emporium. Yeah, Emporium. That's the ticket. Yeah. But where's Coudersport?

Yes, a great ride it was. I think ya snoozed from Smethport to Dubois. I'm glad the Red Bull got ya home in one piece though.

Friday, during lunch at Middletown Tavern (?)(the place in/near Naples) the lady taking the orders was putting names on each slip. When my turn came, we had a clash of accents... "Dahhn? Dan?" No,... Don. I was sitting with Ed and Terry when the waitress came out looking for Deon.... Turned out that was me. I told the waitress "by the way, these are the Belmonts" pointing at Ed and Terry. We got a chuckle but the waitress looked at me like I recently escaped from somewhere - she looked to be about 19 - and the reference made an audible "whoosh" as it flew over her head.... I'm easily amused, however. So Deon it is...

Whatever, Deon - Just start making plans for Georgia (Terry too). I'm working on a place for us to stay at mid point so we can lay off the Red Bull. We'll need more than 4 days - 2 down/2up minimum. Figure a week of wind blown scenery. (RED BULL - Not just for teens and truckers!!!)
