So sorry to hear of your loss. We have three dogs of our own and the oldest is 11 now....we know it's gonna come but don't want to think about it. Lost one a few years back and I cried longer over that dog dying than I have over some family members going.
We truly feel for you both.....RIP Harley.

I am so sorry to hear that Ian. It is good to know that he had a great life with you and Wendy while he was on this earth.

It is so great to see how many other people there are out there who understand and love their dogs (and other pets) like family as well. I have been talking with Wendy and the one silver lining is we will eventually bring love and joy to another dogs life and that dog to ours. Not as a replacement, as you all know there is never a replacement just a new and different member of the family. I won't be rushing into that as I need time to come to terms with her passing first. All I have been doing is talking to family and reading the kind things this family has had to say. It has been a great help for me to get my feelings out and cry away my pain. You have all had such wonderful thoughts and wishes
and many have brought a tear to my eye and helped me see the joy Harley brought to me and my family and we to her. Peanut has been sniffing Harleys bed and where she collapsed outside and I think she knows her playmate is gone now. I truly miss them chasing each other through the house. I had Peanut outside running loose playing with a big stick today and that brought a smile to my face for a bit. I miss how she used to gaurd and care for the twins, the silly way she cocked her head when I scratched that sweet spot on her neck and all the other little doggy things she did to bring joy and love to my heart. It will be a long time before I feel real happiness again. I am glad I have this release to be able to try and express my feelings and from the responses I see it hasn't fallen on deaf ears. I am slightly better today than yesterday and I am sure each day will get a little easier. It's the suddenness , and her young age that make it doubly hard to deal with.

Dog,

When you are ready, may I suggest checking out AdoptALab.org. They always have lots a great labs available for adoption. I got my MollyAnns from them, and I couldn't have gotten a better pup. I'd be glad to give you more info if you're interested...

Thank you Labs are great dogs but we are probably going to adopt another pitbull or pitbull mix from the same shelter. We might go look tomorrow to try and ease the pain. Dogs have a way of cheering me up. We may or may not come home with a new family member all depends on if we fall in love with one or not. We are not looking for a replacement since there will never be one. Our thoughts are that Harley passed and opened an oportunity to help another lost soul. I wish there was a way to bring her back but that can never be so all I can do is try and live my life with love and happiness as I am sure she would have wanted for me.

I should add that I have had several great Labs in my life and they are wonderful dogs. Wendy was looking at a lab pit mix today online.

Although Ive been over Ians house twice and never even seen harley. (she doesnt like men..haha) I heard her growl at me behind the door and I know she was definately a loyal dog and very hard to lose im sure. I almost wish she bit me at least once before she had to go.

Dang, Ian. I am late with this, but I am so sorry for your loss. At least it was quick and not a long illness, where you end up having to put him or her down. Best of wishes for you and Wendy in your search for a new family member.

We took a trip to the shelter today and it was theraputic (I know my spelling is bad) for me to play with all the dogs. I am still very upset and will be hurting for quite awhile I am sure but for the couple hours I was there I felt a little better. There was a cool deaf pit there that learned sign language,if I had the time she might have come home with me.

Ian and Wendy, sorry to hear of your loss. Dogs, and pets in general, ask for so little yet give so much. I try to think that the many cats and dogs we've lost through the years will be waiting for me when I get there (wherever 'there' may be).

Peace, Neill.
