Yep! At 6.5lbs I'd say the steel piece would be quite a bit of weight to start spinning around and you'd be wise to find an aluminum piece that's no larger than that 24 tooth size which you mentioned instead.
It too bad Brent's source seems to have dried up here, because most of those who bought that setup(like Friar John for instance) seem to like it a whole lot.
