Note to all with bikes in the Bonneville family. Before you leave UNLOCK the !@#$%^ forks! Bike fall down now,oh !@#$%^. Embarrraaaasing as all get out.Got 35,000 miles now and today we went to leave Mt.Lemmon at the ski lift area and I let it warm up.Go to take off, wave good buy and all that and oh sh---- down she goes.I am sure I turned a few shades of red.I did good,I did not cuse(out load).Picked it up.Bent the front brake lever, knocked a mirror loose.First time I dropped this bike.I new it would happen sooner or later.Just had ate breakfast,no beer included.Tired yes, cold yes, head up my a$$ appartantly so, unfortunately. Take your time before taking off,and try to check over the basics before going. It might save some embarrasment and money.

I've gotten to the start it up, turn it off, unlock the forks part. To date I haven't gotten to the put in gear part. Parts can be replaced

No worry about fork lock here. Mine does not work and after reading your embarrasing and sad story, I am glad it doesn't......

I know what you mean, although I haven't tried to ride off with the fork lock on, I certainly started her up like that, duh.

You need to make pulling the bars/wheel straight and coming off the sidestand part of your pre-firing routine.

I came up with a new way to dump one the other night.
Pulling a plug (left side).
Had a 2x under the stand.
Turned forks lock right.
Thot it was gonna stand there.
Nope.
I made a grab for it, but once it got the bit in its teeth it was too late.

I prefer to park on the soft lawn,
leave the remove before flight string on the wall,
then the next morning ride up against the disc lock
when I'm in need of a good tipover.

It's a great way to adjust any pesky ego issues.

My finest hour:

Ga Rally 07
Get to the end of the driveway and stop
Bit of a dip on the right and in the dip, loose gravel
Right foot goes into dip
You can guess the rest

I usually turn the bars straight when I get it off the stand...thats when I realize the lock is either on or off.
Sucks you dropped her.

Yep, been there.
Family on holiday, quick ride to town to get a pizza. Dropped bike on my leg and got trapped between trailer and the bike.
Couldn't move the thing off of me and decided to give the nearest neighbour a call for help (disregarding the inevitable embarrassment). Pulled phone from jacket, no signal..!
Thought I'd still be there when the milkman arrived in the morning licking condensation off the trailer for survival.

Finally got some help, picked up the bike, had a coffee and went back to plan A for dinner.
Went down the pizza take away for a hot n spicy...

Can you imagine what happens to a deep pan after it falls off at 50MPH..? Looked like a special kind of road kill.

And then she phoned to ask if I was looking after myself...
