Check the drive cable first. If that's OK, watch the end of it while turning the front wheel to see of the cable turns. If not, the drive mechanism at the wheel may have broken. In this case, do not ride the bike untill it is replaced and all the broken bits (if any) are cleared out because they can damage the bearing seal. If the cable does turn, make sure the (not quite) rightangle drive is tightly attached to the back og the speedometer. If it is tight, remove it and check the gears. IF OK there, the speedometer needs to be tested.

ZOOKA,
Mark my words, - this is what happened.
The two metal ears on the "Speedo drive ring" broke off. The loose metal fragments undoubtedly tore & ripped apart the rubber seal on your left hand wheel bearing (I just did this), and the other seal that goes over that. So, since I'm going through this right now, I know the parts you need. They are,
1. Speedometer Drive (That'll set you back $126) 2. Speedometer Drive ring 3. Left-hand bearing seal 4. Left-hand wheel bearing (the rubber seal on the side of your old one is now torn)
With mine, I replaced both wheel bearings even though my right one is still perfect. I still have that right one, - and it is as smooth as silk. I'll give it to you if you want it. But all the other parts you'll need to order.
BTW, if you bought you Triumph less than 2 years ago, this is a warranty issue and I'd b!tch if I was you. Mine was just outside of the warranty.
If you need the part#'s, let me know.
All the best,
-BT

BT, from being in there making the repair, any suggested prev maint to do to reduce the likelyhood it happens to anyone else? I've been removing/lubing the cable every 1000 miles, but i assume this isn't affecting the drive or driven gears. Nice to know if there's anything that can be done....
Cheers, Mike

Mike,
The culprit is the ears on the "Speedo Drive Ring." None of this would happen if they wouldn't break off. But they do. The only preventitive measure I would suggest is to inspect that little part every season, - grease it and replace it as necessary.

ZOOKA,
Yeah, It's safe to ride five miles. Your bearing is just unsealed. Please post how you are treated by your dealer. My dealer was awful and I'll never go to them again (I like Triumph, but I don't like that dealer).
This should be a recall item.
