Nice enough bikes, but mostly I want Steven Tyler's red leather jacket from the photo shoot....

Not a HD knock off - they use HD engines!! (check out the specs on the bikes tab)

I can think of something else that he made that I'd much rather have...I think she'd look great on the back of my bike

Cool looking bikes though

Yeah nothing more than the other companies I mentioned did and those you couldn't give away used. They don't say HD on them anywhere and when you go to resell they are worth nothing to the group with that mentality. Thats the group they are geared to. I wasn't knocking the bike just making an observation. They are hotrod HD knock offs that use an HD engine just like the rest did and they didn't last long. Most of the guys that would buy one of those would buy the HD and do the upgrades themselves. It's the same status thing we have talked about on this board before, the HD guys will say but it still isn't a Harley so they can be better in their own little worlds.

At least they had the good sense to use the B engine. That has counterbalance shafts like the Triumph twins and run amazingly smooth for a V2.
I wonder if Redwing Boots knows they are using that name?

I liked this quote from Tyler, frankly I didnt know who he was till I read it.I was never much of an aerosmith fan.

First of all,” starts Steven Tyler, “I am that big lipped guy from Aerosmith.

"hey im the big lipped guy in aerosmith, i figured i'd give that description cause im the guy who plays the tamborine in the back line and no one really gets to see my face"

he was probably too busy to write it and had his publisist do it for him...aha

????, I'm confused... What part of being a Rock 'n Roll singer qualifies someone as a motorcycle designer? Or lends anything resembling credibility to the art and science of building bikes?

Maybe Arlen Ness will start a rock and roll band next...

"inspired by Steven’s artistic vision, designed by master engineer and inventor Mark Dirico"

Read the intro. A lot of people that are artists in one venue have some talents in other areas.

From there website:
Quote:

Red Wing Motorcycles was born because a collection of friends wanted to create a unique line of bikes that would turn heads around the world. After a couple of years of design, engineering and testing, the company’s first line of motorcycles debuted in 2007

Hmmm.
Unique?? ? NO
Turn Heads?? NO
A couple of years of design?? It must have been a part time job. They're using HD motors, Tombstone taillights, and Corbin or HD seats.

Nice work... The only Red Wing I'm gettin' are the boots.

I'm not sure how the patent, or trademark/licensing world works, but it is hard to believe that RED WING Boots and Shoes would not at least be somewhat concerned about the use of their good name. I would think less of them as a company if they for whatever reason jumped on this bandwagon as a partner....what would be the upside of that?

I am almost willing to bet that the truth of the matter is that the bikes are the idea of some exec at Red Wing shoes/boots, then contracted as a special project at Harley Davidson or HD Dealers in New Hampshire.

He should, he doesn't seem to have much talent with motorcycle design.

Im pretty sure theres no probelm when you have the same name for a totally separate fields of business. Unless that name or phrase is totally original. Like when metallica sued because a nail polish company named their newest color "metallica" the word metallica is owned by the band because its not really a word.

The 2 words Red and wing are just everyday words, so if a motorcycle company wants to use the name "red wing custom motorcycles"...its a different title than "red wing footwear"

If it was another boot company trying to use the name it wouldnt be allowed. This is to stop people from stealing business from other people, simply by using the same name.

The loop hole is when a company changes a letter or the phrasing of a product name to beat the system. Like walmart soda is called "dr thunder" instead of "dr pepper"..they can get away with this easily because you cant patent a taste.
