You don't need the kit, unless you really want to yank everything out. You can just disable the AI. Not 100% sure of the procedure but there was a post about it. You have to reverse the tubes on the Reed valves and do a few other minor things. Everything stays in place so no one knows it has been disabled.

You got 2 options 1. Plug up the 2 rubber tubes at the top of the AI pipes with suitably sized ball bearings 2. Take off the whole unit - all you need is 2 x Nissan Bluebird sump plugs ( 12mm x 1.25 ) + 1 x 19 rubber plug for the airbox + 1 x rubber cap to close off the Vacumn port on the LH side intake manifold.Take off your Tank first & the rest is self explanitory. No 2. option is better because you can access your spark plugs a lot easier Hoffo

Ditto on the sparkplgs being easier. I think Hoffo hit it right on. Mechano would be the name you can search for the cheap method. He said something about the ball bearing he also mentioned using a ball valve so you could turn it back on if you needed.

I've just disabled mine (I think) Remove the tube going from the carb manifold to the pump. Cut two 1" sections from it. Twist a screw/bolt into 1 end of each. Attach these short pieces to the nipples on the carb manifolds, one on each side. In doing so, you remove a dust cap from the LH nipple; just slide this over the nipple on the pump that you pulled the tube from initially. I've got some sump plugs for a Suzuki SV650 to plug the tubes going into the head...I'll do this when I can be arsed removing the tank!! (Any 12M bolt with a 1.25 twist should do-just cut it down to suit.)

I just removed the AI from my TBA. I bought the removal kit from Brent at New Speedmaster. The kit was simple to install and the instructions were easy to follow. I've just come back from a quick run and the popping in the exhaust is almost gone. It could be my imagination but I think it sounds a bit better too. Anyway I just wanted to thank Brent for the removal kit. (I also bought the universal mirror adapters but that is a another story that will play out at Xmas time when I spoil myself with new mirrors )

Just curious, why would someone want to remove the AI system?

The AI also helps make the pipes blue faster and I believe robs some performance.

If the air injection is so bad why did Triumph design the bikes with it?

The AI doesn't affect performance. It just puts fresh air into the exhaust to enable the fuel that wasn't burned during the combustion/power stroke to continue burning in the exhaust. That's why it turns the pipes blue and pops during decel.

I think it does rob some performance , carb balance can't be great with that thing robbing vacume from one side.

That would be correct if you broke out the microHP meter! The vacuum needed to operate the AI valves is insignificant. No one would ever notice any performance difference, either seat of the pants or measured on a dyno.

I was recently corrected on that one. The AI hole in the head goes in after the exhaust valve.

Does AI removal require any additional tuning or carb adjustment?
