I am having a small amount of oil trickling behind the front sprocket.
It is not much.
I changed the sprocket myself so I dont know if it will be covered under warranty.
Could someone tell me exactly how hard it is to change the front sprocket seal on a 2004 Speedmaster?
I must be pretty stupid because I cant figure out the proceedure from my shop manual.
Any help would be appreciated.

IF IF you have to replace it, simply drill some tiny holes in the metal part of the seal, screw in a couple tiny screws and pull it out holding two screws at oposite sides of the seal.
Put new seal in, tap GENTLY into place with soft wood in criss cross fashion with a very light hammer.

A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice. Pat

Thanks for replying.
I know for sure it is not the chain lube.
I pulled the sprocket cover off & cleaned the chain & all the other residue in there off.
Then took the bike for a 50 mile ride.
The trickle of oil is definetly coming from behind the sprocket.

Thanks Pat
When I changed the sprocket I used a torque wrench.
I torqued it to a 135lbs.
I guess I went to tight.
Or my twelve dollar wrench is a POS.

Might not be your fault, seems like a pretty common defect or problem. I have a new seal (and sprocket washer) sitting on my bench in my to-do-before-I-meet-Pat pile.

I just picked this up on the Delphi forum.
It was from jjoljie or something like that.
He rides a blown Triumph,I think in Sweeden.
He says
And to change the seal the correct way you have to split the engine since it has a flange on it, but I have seen it done without splitting the engine too so it can be done if you are willing to mod the new seal a bit, but it's not the correct way..

What does he mean by modding the new seal a bit??
