Received mine today and installed it. I used the beveled rubber gasket and it fit just right. Looks like either one will work, but the beveled one will make it more flush.
Hope this helps.

You're right, it is hard to see because the opening is so small.I managed to spill about half a pint of gas all over my tank on the first fill up

I used the beveled gasket also.
I really like this.
It should also cure my paint chipping problem.

I had mine on the GREAT PUMPKIN last year.
I do not have a good photo of the tank though.

Yes it is a small hole to see the gas through , just be careful when filling.

Woohoo! Mine came yesterday, and I will put it on tomorrow. I can't wait! I will, however, probably screw this overly easy mod up like all the others. This is how all my attempted modifications go...I will go to remove my old cap, it will slip out of my grasp and bounce off my tank leaving a nice dent and chip. I'll curse, and lean over to grab it, and just then my shirt will catch the handlebar and swing it around right into my noggin. As I hold my head, slightly dazed, I'll straighten up, re-whack my head on the handlebars, and drop the now retrieved gas cap back on my tank for a matching dent and chip on the other side. Really ticked now, I wing the cap at the ground to relieve some stress...and up it bounces like a tennis ball at Wimbledon and connects solidly with my nads before falling right back onto the tank. Glaring at the third mark and with a tear glistening in the corner of my eye, I set the new cap (ever so gently) down on my workbench and hobble inside to get a beer and some aspirin...on my way past the bike my shoelace catches on the sidestand causing me to flop over onto my ride and the both of us tumble over with me falling neatly underneath and becoming trapped by the foot peg which is now planted firmly on my still sore nads. Crying softly like a newborn kitten, I lay there quietly and wizz myself. Anyone wanna bring their bike over to my place for some mods?

All this wouldn't be being done to music would it? I think a circus tune for clowns would be very appropriate.

Sell them I say! After all, the proceeds could go towards ice packs, an athletic protector (see codpiece), and more aspirin and beer.

Funny stuff!
Here's a (hopefully unnecessary) hint: after installing the threaded sleeve with the flat gasket, I put on the gas cap. That opened tank looked way too inviting for the brass tightening nuts &/or those tiny chrome allen screws!!!
Mine looks good - have yet to add fuel through it - be careful.

Pat,

If Jim don't get one and get over there, you'll see mine in september. I bought one about a month and a half ago. Jethro 666 and I have been emailing each other for about a year on it and I finally got it. It does look great. Key's a little cumbersome but I have the tank bra with the cell phone pocket. I just took a hole punch and nipped a hole in the top under the flap for leather lace. It tucks up out of the way.

Course' with gas @ 3.50 around here and over 4.00 in some places for premium, maybe I should keep the key with ME instead.

I don't even use the key.
I put the cap on just finger tight.
and press firmly with my palm and twist the cap off.
only need the key if I don't ride for a while and the cap sticks.

Angelis - Sure, laugh at the inept fat kid! I suppose it's funny that it took 4 surgeons, 12 nurses, 2 rolls of duct tape (don't ask), a case of Michelob, 1 gallon of KY, and a well trained rodent to remove that K & N Filter when I tried to install the FREAK on my bike. That's right, I had a FREAK accident, and now I'm in several used-to-be well respected medical journals. Sorry about your uniform, I'd offer to wash it, but you can probably guess how that would go.

If you are referring to the bolt that took a swan dive into my tank, then yes, I did drop one. Gave it a good cussin' too.

Looks great!

Thanks chopperrick, I picked up one too, woohoo!

And also, glad to know about the little bolts because I would have been one to leave the cap off and drop the bolts in as well.

SkeakyPete,
Excellent advice on how to secure the cap. I zip tied the key to my throttle cables if I should ever need it.

See what you started?

Well. When I need to replace my beautiful oem gas cap, I have a pretty good idea of where I can find one or two or three or four or ...!

I have to say the Kuryakyn cap looks fine, especially on Shari's bike!

my 2 cents worth...i bought one too...costs a little more here...$60 CDN, which is about 45 US or so...used the bevelled gasket...the instructions say to use the flat gasket for flush-mounted threads and the bevelled gasket for raised threads...install took about 5 mins...looks great...it is offset, and the smaller hole makes it harder to see inside when you're filling...i just take it slow and easy...no spills that way...

Alan,

If you are still looking for a cap, do what I did. Go to the Kuryakyn web site and do a search for dealers in your area. It turned out the Harley dealership down the road from me carried Kuryakyn parts and they had the gas cap in stock. I took a ride over during their open house and picked up the cap for $34 plus tax.

I will try that, thanks. Hate to support a Harley shop but it is convenient. I need to get this cap so my bike will look different...like everyone else's on here.

David (Old_Wolf),

Where in the Great White North are you? And yeah I could understand having to be a extra careful with gas, what with the extra that we pay over the U.S.
