My husband read an ad on craigslist (Mass, he thinks) to sell is 2006 Triumph. He stated that they would be worth more that year because they were going to start making them in Taiwan! Is this guy nuts or is their something to it? Personally I think the guy is nuts!

Yep, he's nuts!
Triumph has been making bikes in the Far East for a little while now so who REALLY knows where THEIR bike was made, Hinkley or the Far East?

Should say by the VIN# where it was actually assembled.I may have to eat my words.I'll check mine again later.Almost everything vehicle wise I have worked on has somewhere on it a country of manufacture, unless someone has modified. For example all you people with American made pickups or vehicles, a whole bunch of those are actually made in Canada and Mexico. Here's one for you also, down in the southern part of Texas there is another motorcycle factory.I can not recall the name of them now,but they make a 250cc streetbike and a bunch of scooters.I think the main parts are out of China or Taiwan.Sorry I do not remember the name. They were running adds in bike mags for awhile. They resemble a Harley with a 250cc V-twin,fairing and bags.

I believe that the in the last 50 or so threads on this subject. it was reveiled that begining in late 06 all of the Triumph twins sold in the US will be made in Thailand.
Those sold in Europe will be made in Hinkley.

Weather or not a Hinkley built or Thialand built America is worth more, Is purley the racist factor.(IMHO).

Oh and welcome to the forum Cindy.

American cars have been made in Canada for quite awhile. Trouble with those are that the parts are not always what they are supposed to be. In the 80s many Canadian made Chevy Mailibus for example had a rear in them made in the 60s and the parts you order from the parts store for that car don't fit because of it. I used to run into that alot working in a junkyard.

My last truck (95 F150) and my current truck (04 Dakota) were mostly built/assembled in Canada. I was VERY pleased with the F150 and am VERY happy with the Dakota.

Yo Canada, you are my brother.

That wasn't to say a Canadian built car was bad just not always the same parts as a US built car even though it's same year and model. Makes it tough for parts guys like me.

I don't think their being manufactured in Thailand - just assembled at the present time - I think the poor dude on Craigslist has got it muddled big time - but who knows I bet there are some components made in Taiwan

So here is my ponderance: I have a Toyota made in Ohio, I had a Ford Tauraus made in Canada.
Which car is foreign? Which car is American?

I believe you are referring to the Vento motorcycle line.Pretty cool looking little bikes and they're are pretty cheap for an entry level bike.

Funny, I thought that the normal thing to do was to have components made in Asia and assembled at home. Parts made in Thailand and assembled in UK? I,m not racist, but I do hope that British fingers do SOME of the assembling! I like to say that my trumpet is British made, which in the case of my 02, is generally true.

same here , I take pride in "made in England" That guy on Craigs List has it wrong, the bikes in the US that might be a collectors item one day would be the last of the "made for USA" bikes made in England.

In my humble opinion he has it wrong.... You can still buy functional 60s Triumphs for under 10K and fabulous Triumphs for 20k.

Collectible?? A bike in the 60s for $1000.00 is now worth 10x that is in good condition. Adjusting for inflation and looking at 8k for a new one it went up 20% using todays money.

Its a line to sell a bike :-) to an unsuspecting buyer.

Motorcycles have less value than a mutual fund or money market over time. Far less.

It's Thailand not Taiwan. And didn't somebody say there is a j in front or after of the serial number if the bike is assembled there?

Actually, some were potentially better. The Plymouths and Dodges built there in the 40's and early 50's had a destroked Chrysler 6 of about the same displacement as the US versions. This was because they weren't selling enough cars to justify making 2 different block castings. Those fortunate enough to have a Canadian Plymouth could gain some 30 or 40 HP by dropping in a DeSoto or Chrysler crank and pistons.
