I had the pleasure of having my speedometer calibrated by a
NY State Trooper on the way home from the NERally last year.
He said he got me at 87mph, I had an indicated 96. 10% high.

If I remember correctly the conversation went something like this.
ST "you know how fast you were going?"
UC "No"
ST "87mph"
UC "I was doing every bit of that!"

Am I'm remembering the story right Charlie?

Let my dying thought be that every mile was fun and let my tombstone read,"They never made one fast enough for me."

Yeah, that's how it went.
He was nice enough to write me up for 74.

Well, I'm a guessin' a lot o' the fellers 'round here have never heard the old sayin'...It's far more fun to ride a slow bike fast through the twisties, than if is to ride a fast bike slow through 'em.

In other words...I couldn't care less how fast your bike supposedly is in a straight line. Almost anybody can twist the throttle and just hang on, ya know. The fun is to be had leaning these puppies over and trying to hit that late apex every single time.

I just did that on my BA this past weekend as me and six other dudes rode up to Monterey taking all the backroads there and back....and that included CA Hwy 1 through Big Sur...and guess who was riding the bike with the least amount of horsepower, but who ironically was leading the pack 99% of the time?

(yep! you're lookin' at him...well, at least you're readin' his words anyway)

I was out Sunday running through the great middle Tennessee twisty backroads on one of them slow bikes going fast myself with a group of "faster" bikes. And I was having a blast! Take a closer look and you may notice the Speedmaster is set up more for twisty roads than the straights.

Dwights statement about anybody can go fast in a straight line is one I have quoted often; however after spending a few days at the Salt Flats I have had to change that to anyone on asphalt. The skills required to do well on the salt are learned from experience and I have a whole new respect for the guys and gals that do it!

And since I did want to see what a Speedmaster could do the best and legal way was to make the trip and have it logged with a time slip. Now that I have done it I am back to 80% of my riding being on twisty backroads anywhere I can find them.
Whatever type of riding you enjoy - get out and enjoy it.
"Go Your Own Way" as they say.

2001 TT600 Turbo - 162.47 mph - APS-BG 650 AMA Record 2006 Speedmaster - 111.101 mph on the Salt Flats 2000 Speed Triple - 63k memorable miles.

I would put on a set of leathers and take the busa for a top end run, but I dont look good in all leathers sorry I care to much aobut my fellow man ( and woman ) to subject them to that sight.. But i am steadly loosing weight at 265 now hopefully at 200 by the end of the year.

Now on to the bike thing. I have a customer who has a 06 Busa that has everything done to his that i have done to mine, ( stroker, pipes , indertail, body work, Dyna mod , pipes , dyno tune , he does have lighter wheels then I do)
but he went to somewhere in GA a few weeks ago and hit 235mph in a one mile run.. So I figure my Busa is close to that, maybe 220mph? I have promised my self once i loose the weight, and get the time to install it, i will be putting a turbo on the Busa.

Dont like what you see??? Big red X in the top right of your screen will fix it!

I buried the speedo on my Speedmaster once for about a minute.
