I just got a call from the Dealer on my Dad's bike. They are saying the indent ball and spring is missing from the Choke assembly on the carbs. They say that you cannot purchase this part seperately and must purchase a whole new set of carbs.
1. Is this true? 2. Anyone know where to get this part? 3. Anyone have carbs for sale? 4. How in the He!! did this come off when I never opened the top of the carbs?

Check ezcue's and bikerthug's posts in the classifieds.
And if you have never taken the carbs apart... How is the part "missing"... I might be looking for a new dealer.

Talked to tech. There is a ball and spring inside the left carb that hold the choke knob in. This is missing or stuck in some way and not holding the choke fully in....this in turn is fouling the plugs etc....
I have no idea how this happened. But if this is the problem you cannot purchase this part. Posting a wanted in the classifieds......

One other note....Tech is rigging up a heavy spreing on the choke know to try and hold the choke closed...changing plugs...and taking it for a ride to see if that is the issue for sure.

Put a post up at triumphrat.net - there's a bigger audience there, if you can't come up with one here. I think carbs from all the twins should work.

I have a variety of coil springs and ball bearings. If you can give me the size I can look and see if I have a match.

Talked to the tech. He installed a "strap" to hold the choke in and replaced the spark plugs. He then took the bike out for a test drive. Said it is running perfectly. Therefore that must be the problem.....Calling the place TonyG suggested now.

If you get stuck, try contacting Sandy in Wales or drop him a line through his web site Triumph-antHe may just have the parts or be willing to split a carb for you to cut down on postage

WELL after finally figuring out where the ball and spring are.....I messed it up. I thought it was something internal inside the carb...it kinda is BUT if you take off the choke rail and didnt know it was there then you could easily loose this piece.
In other words....while trying to figure out the backfiring I noted a drip of gas from the left side carb where the choke entered the carb. Look like a nut that could be tightened around this area (compression fitting is what I thought). So I removed the two ends of the choke slide to try and get to the nut (which is not really a nut u can tighten....seemed rubber or plastic). Anyways I must have not noticed this and it fell out.
SH#@$@$!@$!@T, DA!#@#@!n and a few other words...
