I see one out there by Haynes, thought is out of stock at most places on line. Is there another, other than the OEM, or a cheaper version of the OEM out there? Anyone familiar with the Haynes manual and it's pluses/minuses?
I just hate to drop $75 on the OEM. (insert cheapskate emoticon here)

I haven't seen any but I have seen OEM on ebay here and there for a considerable savings. There must be a Haynes available somewhere.

Yep, there is a Haynes, just not sure on the quality. I'd feel better with something though. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, just not familiar with this model. The Haynes is ISBN 1844253643 if anyone wants it.

I bought a Haynes manual from Brent and a manual off ebay that appears to be the Triumph oem manual. They both have their strengths - pictures in the Haynes manual and exploded diagrams in the oem manual. I refer to both manuals frequently. Here's a link to the ebay manual. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Triumph-B...sspagenameZWD1V

Thanks all, much appreciated.
MGJohnE: yep, that's what I find useful on my old Honda. Sometimes the manuals blatantly contradict each other two, which always adds to the excitement.

I got the haynes from newspeedmaster.com ... it is a very good manual in my opinion...written for a british audience, so you have to get past the "tyres" and "replenishing the spark plugs" language (you might find yourself going through 'z' withdrawl)...get it and save the dough

I just laid out the cash for the OEM service manual, I was gonna buy a Haynes. But the haynes only covers up to 05. And I have an 06. I'm sure there is probabaly no real difference in the 05 and 06. But figured I love this bike and want to buy her the best I can get. Nice book covers all the 06 twins. Loose leaf binder (note book) heavy paper, should last forever.

Agreed, that's a good price. they're "Temporarily sold out." at the moment though. I think I'll find one of those though, and then keep an eye out for the OEM one at a deal. Quote:

I have the OEM man. too and when I find good info on the web I print it , punch holes in it and add a chapter. Plus I write notes of things that fit or service notes like the smaller clearance of the ign. pick up.

If you're not the most extreme wrencher and are only buying one manual, buy the Haynes. It has more detailed explainations of many things hardly explained in the shop manual. The pictures are a big help as well. There should be no appreciatable differences from the 05 to 08. The 865 engine stuff is the same, the only difference might be the counter sprocket size. Of course, my sprocket has been the same as the new ones since long before I bought the book.
I have both manuals and wouldn't do without either. I don't do the real serious stuff, but both have been a big help already and I'm learning more all the time.

Yikes! Maybe I could pack my suitcase with a bunch of them and come visit you for some wonderful riding in AU and New Zealand, trip paid for on the profits!
I found the Haynes for 21.95 in stock and they say they shipped today. I'll still keep my eye out for a OEM one though.
