A simple method to avoid bluing is to coat the inside of the header with a liberal amount of grease. Then start the bike with no mufflers and nobody you like any where nearby, the smoke will be unbelievable. when you are finished you will have pipes which will never discolor. I know I didn't believe it either. that was about 5 years ago and people still don't believe my bike has ever been started.
