I have seen bikes that were kept stock and those I think will blue clean through the shields. ?

Contraire, mes amis. Although I agree/believe that removing the AI will minimize, cure, curtail bluing, I ride proof that the AI, when the engine is properly tuned and maintained, is not a factor in bluing. Again, agree that the AI is an additional source of heat, but, disagree that the heat generated when functioning properly is enough to 'blue' the outer jacket of the header. I firmly believe bluing frequently occurs due to one or more of the following conditions;
1. when the engine is set up too lean
2. when the engine idles for excessive periods
3. when the holes at the underside of the header are obstructed
4. when 'tinkerers' have gone mad
5. when dealers are less than competent
6. when the gap between the inner and outer header is non-conforming (i.e., too close)

I am very near to 23,000 miles of AI equipped riding pleasure. Discoloration / Bluing is still not a factor.

I am NOT saying you should NOT remove it. I AM suggesting that bluing can be minimized via competent wrenching.
