Judie and I just yesterday drove from Prescott to Flagstaff to see the Lowell Observatory there, and drove through Williams AZ to get there, which old Route 66 is the main street through that little town.
What I've always thought was pretty cool is that most of these towns that the old 'Mother Road' went through have reburbished their storefronts on it and those places are somewhat like a window back to those days when people like Steinbeck's Joad family where driving upon it.
