Harley Davidson BT's with samson down-slash exhaust..
my speedmaster still has the stock pipes which might be why I hate it so much but when I had the mufflers off that thing sounded sweeeettttt!!! but too sharp like a Jap bike,,if theres an exhaust out there that sounds like Triumph open headers with the treble turned down a 1/4 and the bass turned up a 1/4 then please tell me cause thats the perfect sound!
don't wait for other people, Just do it!

I know what loud is. This isn't my first rodeo. I'm sure there are louder bikes but this particular bike is at least as loud as my Sportster running wide open pipes. So, yes. It is LOUD. I would have to go the rally on my Harley. Not sure I am up to the abuse I'd have to take.

Not a bike, but the engine noise that really gets me is a slow-revving, diesel narrowboat engine, especially as it passes under the bridge I'm standing on. Sheer heaven.

It's not about loud, it's about the note. My '71 Norton 750 Commando Roadster with the little yellow tank, and upswept pipes..... Chrome fenders..... start first kick.....

I have a Fat Boy with vance and hines long shots, a speedmaster with gutted stock pipes (sounds like nascar),a Norton cafe bike with dunstalls, a T-120 chopper with drags, And a '90 5.0 balanced and blueprinted mustang G.T. conv. with 2 1/2" full race system. I'm gonna go outside and start 'em all at once. Good thing my neighbors love me

What bike's exhaust note stirs your soul? Mine - a Speedmaster with nearly gutted stock pipes. Like it or not, you can't say it doesn't sound like a Triumph ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Great moments in a Father's life: I took my youngest daughter to Lime Rock's Ferrari event. Backed up to the fence was a 5 or 600 horse race prepped Ferrari 306 GT, tachin' it up to get ready to roll. We walked over to a foot or so behind the car so the exhaust sound waves were wrinkling our faces back like a pair of giddy Shar Pei pups. She was enjoying it as much as I. Daddy's little girl is a gearhead! Sigh... Imagine the spectacle of the fat guy getting out of that racing seat and through the window... "Get the chain fall, we got one stuck!"

You just don't know what you've got until it's gone. My own Speedy's baritone exhaust note stirred my soul. Best tone I, and many others have heard. Here's the YouTube file to prove it. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the hill folks. Enjoy what you have now. -BT

unclecharlie, Well, back then (February 04), for the exhaust I was running Bub "Dresser-Dogs" (I had modified them with more fibreglass packing material - tightly wound around the inner baffles - with a layer of hardware cloth around that before reinserting back into the pipe). Then I installed (that is, "rivited in") a small restrictor/reducer at the exit point to tone it down a bit. Then, I was running "The Freak" airbox elimination kit with K&N air filters. Then I was running 158 main jets, stock pilot jets, and 3 turns out on the air screws. That's my memory of it. The Bub "Dresser Dogs" have since been discontinued. The closest sound to those old pipes (and perhaps better) are the Staintune Slashcuts with the restrictors in. Here's a 3MB .MOV file for you to download (exhaust note sound). -BT

As I recall, those are the jets that come with "The Freak" airbox elimination kit. It dynoed around 64bhp if I remember right. But the bhp isn't the point, really. The Beemer I ride now has 109bhp (see pic) But the exhaust note does not stir anything (much less my soul). But hey, the wife likes it better - so I trade the stirring of my soul for a little tranquility in the family [sigh]. -BT

Well, I never expected you to quote Joni Mitchell Nice riding, great sounding Speedy
