After spending an hour or so trying on helmets today, I decided on and bought the Scorpion EXO-700. I tried the EXO-400 a couple times, but the 700 seemed to fit better, a little bit lighter, has better vents (easier to adjust while riding) and looks better. I was at one of those motorcycle super mart dealers that carries just about every Jap bike on the planet, so they also have a huge apparel and helmet selection. I tried on just about every brand and model they had (except for some that were waaaaaayyyy out of my budget). The EXO-700 was only $179. I picked up the dark silver color. I like it, it's a dark grey metalic color.

Give me a week or so and I'll let you know more about how I like it. Tonight I am taking my son up to Castle Rock (In Washington) to watch the flat track races, it's an hour ride, so that will be a good first long test.

Last night I rode for a couple hours wearing the new helmet. It is very comfortable. The venting is very good and very adjustable. The aerodynamics are terrific, I didn't feel any lift at all from it, even when looking to change lanes.

My only complaint is the wind noise. You hear the wind, but unlike my old helmet, you don’t hear and feel the wind in your ears, you just hear it, so it's a different kind of wind noise, like a recording of a wind tunnel. But, it isn't loud noisy and the sound varies if you are going into or against the wind. It's tough to describe noise. I am thinking that it may sound like that because of the aerodynamics. You do hear the sound above your head.

It also might be a little unfair for me to give a really good review since I am going from a cheap $55 Zeus helmet that I bought on ebay last year. The Zeus lets in all kinds of wind from underneath and around the face shield so you hear it and feel it into your ears (after a couple hours, my ears would start to hurt). And ventilation? Maybe the Greek god Zeus didn’t need it?

I have read a ton of reviews on helmets by people that use the helmets. One of my favorites is Motorcycle Gear Review. After reading a bunch of other reviews on other helmets it seemed like the biggest complaint about almost every helmet is wind noise. So I figure there just isn't any way to get away from it at all, even with much more expensive helmets.

Next real test will be today since the temps are supposed to be in the upper 80’s.

Does anyone else here use either the Scorpion EXO-700 or EXO-400? If so, what do you think?

The anti-fog shield really works great. The last few mornings have been a lot cooler and damp compared to the last month or so. It is times that I know with my other helmet, I would have to crack the shield open to keep it from fogging up. On the Scorpion, it definitely was not a problem at all. With the exception of smashed bugs on the outside, the shield is crystal clear.

With my old helmet on cooler more damp mornings on the way to work, I felt like my head was cold and my ears would ache a little because of it. With this Scorpion, my head felt comfortable and the only wind I felt was on my chin. I might pick up the Aero Skirt chin wind guard for when it does start to get even cooler around here.

This morning was the first time I listened to my MP3 player on the way to work with my new helmet. Because it fits so well, it was a little tough to put the helmet on and keep the ear buds in place, but it worked well. I have decided that the noise level of this helmet is terrific, since I had to turn down the MP3 player a whole bunch from where I kept it with my old helmet. The wind noise I hear, without the MP3 player, probably seemed more prevalent, because I do not hear all the other noises as much. I hear sounds, but not noise.

When I have my Scorpion-EXO700 on, it feels like it around my head and not just on my head and that is a much more comfortable and secure feeling, since it feels more like it is a part of my head and not a separate thing. It moves when I move and I have yet to feel the wind grab it or feel any lift at all.

I am really liking this helmet a lot. Tomorrow I am riding to Seattle, it is a 175 miles or so each way, which will be another good road test. The temperatures are going to be in the high 50’s/low 60’s on the way up and in the 80’s on the way home.

I like the scorpion I tried on, not sure which model, it was the right shape, but gave me an instant headache... too small! It was a 2X. Anyone know if they make a 3X?

Unfortunately, it looks like the largest is 2XL http://www.scorpionusa.com/helmetsizing.html

well my head is about a 7-7/8 to an 8... so in theory the 2xl should fit.... maybe I'll try another one.

I picked up a medium because that is the size I wear according to their chart. At first it seemed too tight. After an hour or so, it felt just right. You may want to try on both the EXO-700 and EXO-400. They both felt a little different to me.

Thanks Soren. Do you happen to remember which model was more oval? I'm sure the dealer will be able to tell. I've had headache issues as of late, so I'd rahte not add fuel to the fire if possible...

To me, the EXO-400 felt more oval front to back and the EXO-700 felt more oval up and down. Hopefully that helps.

Thanks man. I definitely need the front to back room. A 3X HJC fits my head, but there's a gap on the sides, so any and all pressure hits my forehead and it's not terribly solid, ya know? I'll give the scorpion another go. For me it's not even a price preference... the expensive helmets don't even come close to fitting!!!

Been under the weather last week so no... catching up on work this week so no:) Maybe over the long weekend... I wonder if that counts as clothing, because this is sales tax amnesty week here! I need to go re-try the 2XL scorpion and see just how tight it is. I know they say they will break in, but if it doesn't... that's a hefty gamble ya know?
