Come gather round children from wherever you roam....

Today, I proved that once again I too can and obviously with great ease be enticed into stupid!

Spirit Mountain In Duluth Minnesota, a Ski Hill, and I'll leave it there...it's a SKI HILL!

I run up there on Blue to watch my son riding in a Trials competition. I get there and the boy is out on the Loop. One of the riders says, you drive the loop trail, there is a guy up there on a Venture!

Well, I am on a Triumph and he may be on the loop trail, but after eyeballing it...I can go up that trail. Again, let me paint the picture...a SKI HILL!

I putter and Blue pulls. I am going nice and easy, don't want to find an unexpected slip in the grass going up (THE SKI HILL!) Now imagine a grade (OF A SKI HILL) and I see a spot that seems a bit wet, I see an off camber slope, and choose to go up and around the low spot. I go easily as not to loose traction but you know what, it didn't work. GO FIGURE!

So guess what happens on the side of a (SKI HILL) Rear wheel slips, and over she goes on top of my leg. Caught me by laying right on top of my calf right behind my knee with the exhaust pipe. It was on me because the bike is now all the way over on a downward slope, wheels are no longer on the ground because the bike is now resting on my saddlebags and lightbar!

All alone on the side of a SKI HILL, I pull my leg out forcefully (and quite painfully) free and try righting the bike. Again, righting a bike on a level surface is tough in an of itself, now add the incline of a SKI HILL to it and it felt as if I was lifting the fullness of 500 lbs!

It took me three grunts to make it, and I got it up right. Now I am resiting gravity and the bikes desire to ride down the SKI HILL with all that I have with in me!

I get it upright and on a level spot where I can straighten out the the front brake lever that yielded to the pressure (Trials trick never cinch your levers tight, allows them to roll when the hit the ground) Turn signal was a whisker from dinging the tank!

As you might guess with my new found education relating to gravity and street bikes on the side of a SKI HILL, I promptly, but cautiously made my way down.

Survey revealed lightbar end tweaked but straightened, bent light visor on bar, but straightened. This likely saved my gas tank form receiving a mortal wound. Dirt scratch on windshield, but brackets took the impact with no bending or moving!

As for me, my 50 year old body is groaning, no burn on my leg but black and blue and scrapes from top of calf to ankle . I may be strong like bull, I remain, smart like tractor. I once again can say and proclaim that DUMB HURTS! (on the side of a SKI HILL!)

And I share my adventure with you for your entertainment at my expense!

Was this anywhere near a SKI HILL? Maybe you should have a Jaffa and take a ride on a new 1500 to make you feel better.
Glad you and your scoot weren't damaged worse.

Dumb !- of course it was, going on a SKI SLOPE WHEN THERE WAS NO SNOW !!!!!

Glad to know you didn't get badly hurt and the bike seems to have survived relatively unscathed as well.

Imagine how bad it could have been if you'd been on a SKI HILL when that happened?

Dont you know your are supposed to get a Scrambler to go up a trail on a SKI HILL.
Next time keep the motorcycle to the MOTORCYCYLE HILL and bring the skis for the SKI HILL. I guess good thing it was a Minessota SKI HILL as opposed to a SKI MOUNTAIN that you might find in the rockies.
Seriously I'm glad you are realatively ok. Take care of the back though. I lifted my old intruder once and my back was sore for several days.
Take care and ride safe

Uncle Charlie, you do my Dad real good!

You know it's Bucky's fault for posting that picture of the Triumph Trials bike! (Well I guess I chummed the water) It was a natural connection was it not, Triumph Trials Bike, Triumph Motorcycle at a Trials event on a...(ok one more time) SKI HILL!

I just had to know..... I guess? rizenfrazzzinfrazzinrizzinn.

Unbelievable - We just rode with you yesterday and you looked clean and sober!

Ok - here's the irony (specking of dumb hurts) remember that gravel road we took on Saturday? Well it seems there were 3 more gravel roads on today's route. Picture 5 Triumphs driving at (relatively) high speed on loose (very dusty, very twisty) gravel roads. I think it was some sort of twisted test?? Probably about the time you went SKING today, Matt bought it on the gravel...

I had to pull the bike off his leg....hurt his back....the bike is really tore up but runs.....

Shorty there after, we rode right past Spirit Mountain thinking....WTF are we doing??

I'm glad you're ok - I say we stick to the paved roads eh?

Ed, I know in just a few short months that this very same ski hill where you had your little misadventure today will be covered in snow, because, as you know, it does get cold there in Wisconsin. Now listen very carefully here, because I just may be able to spare you another unfortunate little mishap which could befall you if you're not carefull when the next winter season rolls around up your way.

Now, you know that guy that goaded you into doing this little number today when he told ya, "Well, there IS a big Yamaha Venture up there already!"...well...if you run into this very same guy again when you're there skiing this winter, and this very same guy Double-Dog-Dares you to stick your tongue on that metal flagpole that's planted next to the ski lodge there...well...
...DON'T DO IT!!!!

(could'a been worse ya know...glad to hear you didn't ding the tank...that REALLY sucks)
