Got out and about today, founnd this bit of "unexploded ordinace" that somone left in the parking lot of a pizza joint.
The percentage you're paying is too high-priced
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams

There was one in the back of Automobile magazine several months back. Sold at one of those high-dollar auctions for some unbelieveable amount. I guess everything's collectible to someone. Now, if it was one of the rare ones with a trunk instead of the hatchback... * * * * * March 2007, Barrett-Jackson Auction (Palm Beach). A 1976 low mile Pinto coupe sold for $12,650. Quote from the mag: "At the end of the Pinto's production run, it seemed that no one wanted America's fun but explodable compact car. Time, it seems, has healed that wound; this was one of the most talked about cars of the entire weekend."

I saw a wagon version I think it was last week running around here. Clean too. I remarked I didn't think there were any of those left.

Its a wonder my mother's Pinto didn't explode when I was driving the snot out of it til I took delivery of a brand new '74 Gremlin. Those Gremlins would smoke the tires forever.

If you run across a Pacer - Then you've found something!!!
My dad had one - worst thing on four wheels. Made the Pinto seem HOT ( Bad choice of words I guess)

Ugly yes but you have to wonder what happened to AMC. The lowest recalls on many of their cars, some having none. Considered smooth running and often ahead of the times. The first compact American car. Technology like the Mighty Mite, Humvee and of course Jeeps. A 70's design 6cyl motor that not only still passes modern emissions but was far more powerful in the 80's then most V8's in so called American sports cars. Some of their designs still copied today.

In my days of automobile wrenching, I worked at an AMC/Jeep dealer in '77-79. Serious P'sOS

Now you guys leave those Pinto, Gremlin and Pacers(BTW...you forgot the VEGA, gentlemen)....ALONE!!!!
If it wasn't for these very "triumphs of small car engineering" courtesy of Motown, then we wouldn't have all these well designed and executed japanese, korean and german small cars transiting our american roads TODAY!!!
(now THERE'S some sad irony for ya, huh?!)

Yea, that's definitely something you don't see every day.
When I was a kid, my next door neighbor has a Pinto wagon. I helped him stuff a 302 into the thing.

I had a 72 Pinto when I was stationed in Tucson AZ back in 1989. Not a bad ride for a poor airman, but I sure cringed anytime someone would pull up really close behind me.

All too true Dwight and add the 73 oil embargo to the equation.

yeah well when you live in NE and you spent 3 plus years restoring a 67 mustang convertable...which ONLY comes out on REALLY nice days...you need cheap crappy transport for the winter and spring and rainy days...but the Maverick was the worst...no Heat...That was a LONG winter

Those Aspen or Volare wagons were ugly but the slant 6 versions were tanks. I used several in the junkyard for tool wagons and you couldn't kill em.
