It called sniping- Friar John nailed it. When I ebay, I'll lowball the bid the minimum so it is harder to cancel the auction, but I never place my real bid until the last 10 [italic]seconds[/italic], or I write a snipe script to bid
(proxy) for me. Ebay actually offers proxy bidding. Bottom line, If you want it, bid the maximum that you want to pay. if you don't win- well- no harm, no foul. Ebay used to be a great place to get deals, but any more, it is the pawnshop of the web. Occasionally there is the good deal, but you got to work for it and stay involved. I'd rather watch the S&P.
