addendum to my post:

Maybe the MPG should be adjusted to the incorrect instruments. Those numbers I listed were straight from gas tickets and what the reading was when I filled up. My speedometer is reading 9% high, so should the MPG be increased the same 9%? That would put the avg at 50 mpg.
