I was just out on my Bonneville this weekend and was passed by a couple of Ducati GT 1000s. It's a really good looking bike. If I had and extra $10k laying around I might pick one up.

I dont think i have seen a Ducati that I wouldnt want to park in my garage. Truly beautiful machines. Love them all, except that multistada thing. Not sure about that one.

just great. another bike i'd need a step ladder to climb up on.

didn't seem that high.

Always wanted a Ducati and this one is no less desirable. But,(big but), the maintenance costs are staggering.

Yeah I did see that one. Personally, I prefer the GT 1000. Both nice though.

My buddy has a silver one. We actually took our bikes from Denver to Phoenix and back in June. I was obviously bit more comfortable on my Speedy, but the few times he got to feelin' froggy on the Duc, it took me a WHILE to catch up!

Let's be honest, none of their bikes look too shabby

Nice bike and a retro with some real modern handling and power. Love the motor. A friend is a Duc nut and has a 999, monster and is now adding the GT1000 to his garage.
I am tired of hearing about the cost of maintenance with Ducs. Yeah they cost a bit more but not enough to stop someone from owning one. What really costs more is not the maintenance but the parts if you highside one. My friend and I compared two years of maintenance from my gixer and his duc. The duc cost $140 more a year but was more fun, better looking, got better mpg and had character. Of course it cost more to purchase though.

Put a 6" thick pillow on your Speedy or America and sit on it. That is the height of that Ducati

Might want to find another 3 or 4 thousand dollars for maintenance tools. I'd rather have a new Royal Enfield (at least they require less downtime than the Duc's.

I'll admit I like the older horizontal V Ducs a little better as far as aesthetics. Nice retro look and styling all the same.

Yep! I agree with ya, Ed. I'd rather have an old late-70s or early-80s Ducati Darmah. Just as beautiful as the 900SS of the same era, but much more rideable due to it's standard style handlebars. And, the Darmahs also weren't what I'd call "gangly-looking", like these modern Ducati GT are with their boxy "breadbox" gas tanks.

And, the old bevel-drive Duc motors are much more beautiful than these newer Pantah-derived cam-belt motors ever were.

I love the t-bird sport and think they are a better looking bike. But the GT handles better and has that great engine. They are real nice in person with good build quality but still not as nice to look at as the t-bird. By the way I have seen plenty of t-birds for sale.

T-Bird Sport isnt nearly as hot and sexy looking as the Duc GT1000, especially in red. The details on the Ducati are just gorgeous. I personally prefer the looks of the Speedmaster ( althought they really arent comparable bikes , but with the new tank, I think the uglied new Speedmaster and America lose big looks points ).

Actually the GT1000 was one of my first choices when shopping for bikes this year. I loved the retro look and combined with such a high performance engine, I went in to the dealer with the intent to buy it.

Then I sat on it. It's much higher then it looks. At 6' tall I can't put both feet flat on the ground. Also I didn't like the riding position. Thats the reason I passed and got my America which was #2 on the list.

I have no regrets but in a year or 2 I may try to pick one of these up used. Or just get a new Hypermotard.
