Won't be trading my '06 for one of these. I really hate getting away from the classic tank with the knee pads. Grumble. Grouch.

I find the "classic" tank argument pretty humorous since the "classic" indent didn't appear until a decade or longer after the introduction of the twin motor. Those early knee pads are just stuck on a smooth tank giving the illusion of an indent. The "wasp waisted" tanks of '02~'07 are pretty much a new creation, very pretty and I like mine, but new all the same.

Yep! That's very true, Ed! BTW, please tell me that besides not goin' for that girder front end, that you're ALSO NOT gonna fit one o' those gawdawful SPRUNG HUB rear (what was very loosely described at the time as)"suspension units" on the back of that retro Triumph that you're gonna make...OKAY?!

As I stated before when this came up - the dealers (2 so far) have told me that the "new" tank is an option, not standard. But they could just be idjits too. 
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

The dealer had a Suzuki Blvd a few bikes down and the tank looked identical including the long flat logo (except for the name).
Since almost everything revolves around the ole' bottom line, maybe Triumph is secretly buying their new '08 tanks from Suzuki??
Maybe a good conspiracy theory in the making anyway.

Its not really about the indents, its more about the height. The P-Twin being upright needs an upright looking tank to match. The sweeping look of the new tank is more suited to a v motor. Most of the Classic tanks give a flat bottom look and a tall front.

Hey! I say, maybe they're right!(well..only a little, of course) BUT, I know whenever I park my BA next to a bunch of T100s and Thruxtons, it's usually MY bike that gets the most attention from the general public. There's just something about the proportions of the thing that draws the eye to it. It sure drew my attention to it back in late '01.

While reading "TRIUMPH MOTORCYCLES IN AMERICA", I noticed that Triumph changed their tanks quite often even into the 60's, what with BSA/TRIUMPH being all lumped together and all. Some teams used big rectangular fiberglass tanks on some race bikes, while others swapped the BSA tanks Triumph used for more traditional Triumph tanks....look at the early Tridents, too.
Hard to tell from the pics provided, but are these new tanks not seemless now? Do they still show the exposed flange running under the edges that some here have used chrome door edge molding on as an accent? We griped about the flange and wished it not there not that long ago, and now we gripe because they heeded our wishes?
Personally, I think the whole bike looks smaller - at least in these two pics (the blue-on-blue America, and the black Speedy). The changes made to the front sprocket cover, the passenger peg mounts, the rider peg mounts...everything looks so "homogenized". Like something I would expect to be coming out of Thailand, or Japan.
