Hoffo has a 2008 in Pacific Blue and White. In a previous post he advised
Quote:

It's a cast metal tank badge, it's got a sort of a eyebrow on top reminiscent of older models but a bit more contempory in design. I've just run downstairs to have a look at badge and it appears to be stuck on - no screws, no indent in tank for badge,

I like the color, and the looks of that new tank. Overall, a great looking bike.

$16,590. asking price. What's the deal? The tank does look good, but I hate to see the classic knee indentions go away. I also like the Triumph name bigger as in all previous models.

I like it.

It makes for a very good 'Mark II' of the TBA. A little different and yet easy to see the family resemblence. Well done Triumph.

A good mate of mine (Johnno) has just last week bought an 08 America the same color scheme Blue on Blue it's nice but I still prefer the Blue White. The light blue is almost identical to the old Bonnie Blue.
I paid $15500 for mine here in Brisbane,Aust.
I was thinking of buying one in the States and bringing it over but it would have cost me more with all the duties etc.

cough....thank you. Now i have beer on my keyboard.

So i guess that makes the NZ/AU Dollar about 1.5 higher then the US. I think one of those HDs goes for a little over $20,000 here.

Back to the original thread. 16,000 plus or not. I still like the look of that new Triumph.

I've put 1000kms on mine in 2 weeks, and thats just riding around, can't keep off it, the BEST bike I've ever owned, and get a lot of compliments from everyone. Pain in the butt sometimes when you got to get somewhere and people just want to ogle and talk.

That's not far off the Canadian price. Out the door is close to $12,000. Used ones usually go for around eight.

Nope, the politicians just get a charge out of making us bend over and you know what. Something about all of them being latent homosexuals.

Basically the issue that gets thrown at us is that due to the limited population, they do not make money on volumes so markups are higher. The duties are really not that bad (approx 10%). Shipping costs are also an issue but they would also be an issue shipping to the USA. Its also supply and demand. HD's are significantly higher, Triumph is in the middle and Jap bikes are pretty cheap. I can buy a Honda 750 Areo Shadow for the equivalent of $8,100 USD only $1,600 more than the USA. The RRP in OZ for an America is approx 12,000 USD or around $4,000 more. But hey, which would you rather have... I'm told just pay and shut up.

That looks like a Yamaha Warrior tank on top of a Triumph engine. I dont see anything unique about the look, it loses its provenance as being a Triumph.

It is a great looking bike. But, I don't understand why they would change the tank just for the sake of change. I think the tank was one of the best appearance features of the Speedmasters and Americas. I assume they are reserving that look for the new 1500.

The original tank and my America's wire wheels are looking better to me everyday.

So glad I got my '07 Blue/White.

The new tank is alright, it's not ugly, but it's missing a little character.

And the New England white looks a bit more classic than the blue on blue.

Yes, Ma'am, but it's good to reinforce the idea since this 08 speedy has carbs...

Gina,
The model I've got (the supposed 2008) has got the new style Tank but still has carbies.Same tank capacity as the 07 model.I don't think they are strictly the new model. The manufacture date on my VIN label is 08/07, if that makes any sense.

Seems to me to be a lot o' heartache around here over somethin' relatively inconsequential.

The new tank? Not bad. At least it's still teardrop in shape.(could be worse, ya know...take a gander at that breadbox sittin' above the new retro Ducati 1000GT's engine[in the Other Bike Forum], if ya REALLY wanna see an UGLY gas tank)

And, don't forget...that BEAUTIFUL Vertical-Twin engine sitting right below this new "controversial" gas tank is STILL one of the best lookin' motors out there on the market today.(I just wish Triumph would....MAKE IT AT LEAST A THOUSAND CCs, and then I might be tempted to trade my '02 BA in for one)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
