I've had the Avons and currently have the Metzlers on there.
I loved the Avons. The grip on wet roads was amazing and it gave you the feeling that the roads were dry. The problem is they just don't last very long but that is the trade off for good performance tires.
Right now I'm still up in the air with the Metzler's. I have noticed that they don't hold the road as well on a wet surface as the Avons but they are a good tire in wet conditions and are night and day compared to the stock Bridgstones that I had on originally.
If the Metzler's last longer than the Avons than these will be the tires for me. Good handling on wet surfaces and a decent lifespan.
