I think it is fine underneath, both connections covered tightly with shrink wrap tube. I'm afraid if moisture enters the top of the switch, it will make contact inside the switch, turn the remote on and drain the battery pretty quickly. The weatherproof ones are sealed with a rubber boot on top. It would probably work fine, but one good soaking might do the trick.
