It was 38 years ago, today....

I was there...well, for Day in the Garden '98.

Had to look that one up. 35th anniversary of Woodstock. Max Yasgur was the guy that owned the property.

Ah, fond but fading memories of my misspent youth...ol' Max was pretty unhappy about the mess but what a musical revolution it birthed!

Thank you Soren. I had no idea what they were all talking about.

Yep! And at last count there were now 4 1/2 million folks there at Yasgur's farm that summer.

(but I was smart enough to turn down Hendrix's kind offer of some of his blue acid BEFORE that announcement!!!)

4 1/2 million...really.....and who was doing the counting. The same people who dropped the Jimmys Blue Acid.

Nah, Mark! A lot o' those people are now hangin' around freeway offramps holdin' up signs sayin' somethin' about workin' for food!(if they're still around, that is)

The "official" estimate was "about 1/2 a million strong"(sorry, couldn't resist that one). But, the "joke" is that if you ask any 10 Boomers where they were in the summer of '69, at least 1 of 'em will tell ya that they were there "groovin' to the sounds".

I beg your pardon sir. Shame on me. I will write Jimi one thousand times on the white board. For you old timers, the white board is todays version of your old black board.

All of the threads are starting to blur: internet, Luddites, kickstarts, electric starts, Woodstock, Elton, Al, Jimmy, Jimi...aaaahhhh, flashback!

Hey Mark! Maybe you're in luck afterall!!!

Seems Ed here just might have been one of those Boomers who actually WERE there droppin' in(err...maybe that should be "droppin' out") there at Yasgur's farm some 38 summers ago, huh?!

(five'll get ya ten he either rode his old Bonnie there or he came with Sunshine Lipchitz in her VW bus)

Nah, I was in New London going through Coast Guard "indoctrination" that summer...that other stuff came some years later after I got out...

Lyndon Johnson, Memphis Garbage strike, Martin Luther, The Gulf of Tonkin, Tet offensive, Bobbie, Afros, Eugene McCarthey, Nixon/Agnew, '68 Chicago Police riots/Mayor Daley, Paris student riots, Donovan/CSN&Y/Jefferson Airplane/Arlo Guthrie, Monterey->Woodstock->Altamont. A lot happened in a few short years (I was a kid). No wonder (part) of the world was ready for some brain dead Disco music by the middle 70's.

I remember me and 4 of my friends sitting in an overheated Pontiac on I-95 in BFE, South Carolina. We left it on the side of the road and hitched back to Florida. That's as close as I got to 'ol Max's farm.

Bummer, I thought. In hindsight, maybe it was a blessing.

Sarcastic? Never quite saw him that way. Now I have to read the strip with another attitude in mind.

...and the acid you had to "watch out for" was the brown acid, not blue...

I was stuck on the thru-way unable to proceed any further 'cause it was basically shut down trying to get there.
