My favorite comments are those that are made in complete ignorance.

Like there's a big switch for the internet...

However, this does remind me of this brilliant Onion video:

Yeah, so he hates the net but he's happy to keep the cash rolling in from it ... what a tosser!

So, since I'm not British, but I ride a British bike, I figure I'd better delve into the minutia of the British dialect to better improve my riding experience.

What is the difference between a "tosser" and a "wanker?" I'd hate to use one when the other is more apropos.

They're one and the same!

Possibly, tosser sounds less aggressive?

Hmmm...surely you've seen monkeys at the zoo...one tosses his feces at you while the other tugs (wanks) his sore business...My apologies to the mods if this violates the rules...

Oh, come on! Can't you guys see it now???

Tonight on "Celebrity Death Match"....In THIS corner, weighing in at 158 pounds, wearing gold-lame trunks and diamond-studed eyewear, "The Internet Marauder", SIR ELTON JOHN!!!

And in THIS corner, weighing in at 310 pounds(presently...hey put that Twinky down, Sport!!!), wearing the non-descript biege trunks(to match his personality), The "Inventor" of the Internet...AL GORE!!!

(the outcome on this one's gonna be hard to figure, but my money's on Big Al...hard to give away a good 150lbs to your opponent and still expect to come out on top, ya know!)

I used to be a bit of a fan of his,(3 or 4 albums which I used to quite enjoy ) but after wathing a documentary about him, and seeing what a self opinionated arrogant toss pot that he is, I just dont enjoy his music any more.

That's funny. Shut down the net for 5 years. And here I thought TV destroyed creativity, not the internet. Maybe he favors going back to horses for transportation also.

Oh, I understand what he's getting at. And he's wrong. Doesn't matter, though. The proverbial cat is out of the equally proverbial bag. You could prevent people from sharing music about as easily as you could eliminate all the handguns from the US. Remember, the intarweb has only been around in it's current form since the early 90s. Before that people were still chatting and communicating via their computers on local bulletin board systems with just a phone line.

That's ok dude! But, what i meant with him...if he's so adamant and complain' about battery size...is to go with a kick start...meaning, get an engine that uses a kick starter.!!! that was the my gist anyway. I really never understood what he was goin' on about. You need a battery, end of story with these bikes.
No problem.

One more thing...too bad Triumph doesn't have that option...i have a Yamaha XS-1100 that is electric start, but has a place to install a kick starter.
Ok, that's 'nuff. Gonna check that large a..ed battery.

You're right. I'm probably jumping ahead a few steps. But...

"John, who recently made his entire music catalog available for purchase on the Internet, also said that 'there's too much technology available.'"

...I don't think it's too far of a leap to say he'd much rather have people buying his music than sharing it or creating it themselves in their basements. Given the extremely negative response that other artists have received when criticizing music sharing (see Metallica), he artfully steering queer, er, clear, of that issue by couching it in fluffy language about concern for people's well-being.

"Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK, but it doesn't bode well for long-term artistic vision."

Sounds more blowhardy than genuine to me.

Elton John. mmmmmmmmm sounds vaguely familiar. Oh yeah, burnt out has been, with dodgy morals, who throws hissy fits, and once had a song..."Dont let your son go down on me..." Who cares what he says.

From the Guy who re-wrote the candle in the wind tribute to Diana, he's got a nerve to talk about lack of talent !

He talks about the internet stopping people meeting and exchanging things - like what ? the HIV VIRUS ? ( he has tests every month - why doesn't he stop doing whatever he does that puts him at risk ? )

For a person who spends millions a year on flowers, intends to leave his wealth to princes Harry and William - who are both already very rich - while appealing to the rest of us to contribute to alleviating world poverty is an insult.

Got nothing against gay people but that guy is a useless fat poof who has been very fortunate to earn a very good living in the 70's when music quality sank to unexplored depths!

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Elton John and his partner were driving their custom HUMMER through Hyde Park when a gunman jumped out and demanded their money. " We don't carry money dear" said Sir Elton, "We don't need to. We're as famous as the Royal Family and like them we get everyhing free". The gunman thinks for a moment and says "o.k give me all of your jewelry" . " We don't wear jewelry in the day dear" said Sir Elton," that's much too vulgar". The gunman thinks again. " OK, get out of the car he says. The two comply and the gunman drives off.

What happened to that £100,000 Rollex watch I gave you this morning to flaunt in the park" said Sir Elton to his partner. "Well when I saw the gunman, I was able to remove the watch from my wrist and secrete it about my person - if you catch my drift" he said. " Oh booby dear, if you'd have told me that I could have saved the HUMMER " said Sir E.

If you do it today you MIGHT regret it. If you CAN'T do it tomorrow you WILL regret it.

Okay, jerky, here's the part I cut out of my previous diatribe:

I'm a 100% for people creating and distributing their own music, but as a creative professional I'm 100% against music file sharing. Copyright law is way too important to anyone who creates intellectual property for a living. I have over 3200 songs on my iPod and I have a physical CD or cassette for 99.9% of those. The rest I've purchased through iTunes or downloaded for free under the Creative Commons License.

(Puts on moderator hat, starts reaching for hammer) As for the rest of you, the jokes about Elton's lifestyle are getting a little too explicit.

I get the distinct impression that our members from across the pond do not care for Sir Elton. The thing is I used to like his music in the 70's when I was in my late 20's. I think I even have a couple of albums stashed away in my closet somewhere. But what he has become latley is something else. He talks about creativity but hasn't written anything new for years, and his concerts are just re-hash of his old hits. And the way he flaunts his lifestyle is rather crass. I liked him better before he came out of the closet. I am not a homophobe and work with people who are gay but I tend to agree with my Brit and Aussie friends that he is more or less a rich/famous "has been" with a big mouth.

You're right. It seems he hasn't done anything new in decades. And did he really ever create anything on his own? Always seemed to me like Taupin was the driving force behind (stop it) the music. His music has just been overplayed to the extreme. I cringe whenever I'm in a doctor's office and Philadephia Freedom comes over the muzak channel.

OK, I accept your stand on music sharing, but must say that I'm in support of it. I know many people say it is overly simplistic to compare music sharing to sharing a book or a magazine, which are not illegal, or checking a CD out of a library (which also costs nothing and does nothing to increase the earnings of artists), but in my view, it is identical. A friend can legally give me a book, or I can go to a used book sale, and even buy a book, both of which to my knowledge are legal, and neither of which helps the artist who created it. If a person copies a CD and gives it to me, I see it as exactly the same thing as if he gave me his CD, and as long as no money is exchanged, is identical to exchanging written print. In my eyes at least, the RIAA is nothing more than a group of legally empowered thugs. But, that's my 2 cents....

Ive got a few Elton albums, some are great, some are not so great (hows that for pc). But i will agre with most on here. He is a loud mouthed little has been. I think he likes to make stupid comments just so that people remember he is still alive. Hes probably got a new album coming out or is about to go on tour so needs to remind everyone that the old fossil is still alive and kicking.

As for the music sharing. Im guilty. Always have been.
Before the internet i would borrow other peoples records, cassettes/CDS and tape them.

Apples and oranges. When you lend a book or a magazine, typically that person doesn't photocopy it. I can lend you my CD and that's fine, but you are not authorized to make a copy of it (CD or MP3). That's the law. It's not illegal to share a single copy of a piece of media, it's only illegal/immoral/unethical to duplicate it. If an artist doesn't care about their copyright they can release their music for free under the creative commons license, and many have because typically they don't make their money off record sales - the record companies filch that. But the creator makes the rules. Ignoring the artist's wishes is theft. I don't buy this, "Information wants to be free," B.S. -- that's just an attempt at justification.

All that said, I think the RIAA is pretty much pure evil. Due to the advent of the internet (which ties this back to EJ) the old monetization model for the music industry must die. The RIAA suing 11 year-olds is just an example of the death throes of that industry. Thankfully the RIAA has suffered a number of set backs in the courts lately.
