I used to travel for work, and I have a set of Shure in-canal headphones that I bought to use on the plane, these to be exact - http://www.shure.com/PersonalAudio/Products/Earphones/SEModels/us_pa_SE210_contentI've been using these while I ride, and I really like it. I keep the volume low enough that I can hear things going on around me, and since they're in-canal, they block the wind noise from my helmet pretty well. Some folks are telling me I'm nuts, because I should be focusing and listening to what's going on around me, but I really don't think I'm any less focused personally. If I'm not using the headphones, my mind tends to wander anyway, and I end up singing a song in my head anyway. Opinions? Am I nuts?

I use Koss in-ear headphones on long jaunts. Blocks the wind noise and lets me jam. Keeps my ears from being all worn out from the noise after a few hours.

I'm a fan of the Etymotic brand ear plugs (which I wear when I ride) and I have a set of Etymotic's ER-6 headphones, but they block too much ambient sound and I fear that would be risky business even without a the music on. Mrs. T has since confiscated them for use on the riding mower with her Nano. If you keep the tunes low enough to hear the sounds around you I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't be okay. Etymotic

Those look intersting but at 70 mph I cant imagine they sound like anything especially if you have pipes.

I use these Koss ear buds almost daily on my commute to work. I keep the volume low and they're OK for blocking out most of the wind noise. I figure even with them in and the volume at a reasonable level, I can still here more than a cager in a modern car with a quiet cabin, cranked stereo and a cell phone in their ear.

Where did you get those from and how much are they. Can you hook an ipod straight into them. I saw a pair of them on a V-Rod not so long ago and thought i might like to get me a set of those.

If those are the Kuryakyn (weird, getting used to spelling that correctly) speakers, they are crazy expensive IMO. Something like $400 for the pair...

I use some Sony ear buds. I keep the volume low enough that I can hear what is going on around me. It helps keep the sanity during rush hour traffic and on long rides. It is almost like having movie music constantly playing. What is cool is that sometimes the right song comes on that fits the situation.

Is exactly why you don't need headphones or speakers!

dennis, I also use the Shure EC2a. They are just the older version of the ones you use. I love them. Especially on the long slab rides. Around town I listen to the bike but on the road, I prefer the tunes too. Gotta love iPod.
