 Uni filter preoiled?

I bought a Uni air filter from Bella Corse. The website says the filters are preoiled. Yet the filter comes with a tag that says it must be oiled before use. The filter does not feel sticky so can I assume that it is not oiled?
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger......and then it hit me.

correct, if not sticky, it's not oiled. I got mine from Brent and it was the same deal although that stuff is available at any dealer.

Yup...that's the way it looks.
I've never used an oiled filter and have heard the stories about over-oiling. How do you know what the right amount of oil is?

go over it once from about 10-12" and leave it at that. you don't want the entire thing to be soaked for sure. all you'll accomplish w/ that is restricting air flow.
if you spend more than 8 or 10 seconds covering the whole thing (while kind of rotating/twisting to get all of the foam insert) then you're probably putting too much (IMHO).
in other words, if your spray oil is blue in color, you don't want the the entire foam part of the filter to be solid blue - if you get that far you probably have too much.
someone else might chime in and tell you otherwise - that's just from my experience.

Even if they did oil it at the factory it's only gonna be a cursory spray. Good practice to clean and re-oil the filter before use.

If you squeeze a wet foam element and oil oozes out ,  you probably have too much on there . You don't want oil pooling up inside the tiny spherical chambers , ideally the oil will , by capillary action , creep into the chamber walls , where it will grab dirt particles .

I got a UNI for Karens bike today and noticed the same...not oiled. Is here a diff in filter oils? I have some K&N filter oil...can I use it on the UNI?

Pressing kitchen paper from the inside out towards the mesh? At least that's what I did when using the UNI.

I oil a Uni as if I'm spray painting it, making two passes on the inner element only: one pass from above, and the other from below, to get the pores from both angles. I also make a quick pass on the end foams just for good luck. I can't see any benefit to oiling the outer foam, but I could be wrong.
When you run out of the original Uni oil, as you likely know, most auto parts stores carry aerosol filter oil, or one can use regular old Dino based motor oil applied via a spray bottle. (600 million old cars & lawn mowers with oil bath air filters did just fine with this method ;-)) True synthetic based oil as used on an air filter may not combust as well as Dino would during a potential excess purge cycle, but it is probably of very minimal concern.

You can use any kind of oil you want to use. The K&N stuff is a little stickier so it works better then the UNI I used to use.

outside should be just fine, to much oil is no good

I just sprayed the inside - less chance of any oil going further. The air is pulled from the inside out. A little oil just helps trap the dust particles. Don't soak the thing, just enough to cover the inside good. I used a paper towel to wipe any excess off the inside.

Always spray on the side from where the air enters the filter, and the air flow will drag the oil thru, so if you are using a filter in the air box then spray on the inside. If using a cone filter straight to the carby, then spray on the outside.
