As you all know, the decision to buy my America was a decision between it and a Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Today, me and a buddy who rides a Vulcan 1500 went to Dickey's BBQ for lunch.

There were a group of 6 or so gentlemen sitting in front of the restaurant eating. One of them walks by us, notices my helmet on the table and asks "Which one of you rides the Triumph?" He asked how long I'd had it and such, and told me how much he dug it. He returned to his table, and as they were later getting up to leave, announced "Hey, there's a new Triumph over there" the entire pack of them then proceeded to walk over and fawn over my bike, completely ignoring my buddy's Vulcan that was parked two feet away.

An old timer that was with the group then came over to me and told me how much he liked the bike and all about the '67 BSA he rides to this day. The dude is a true english bike fanatic.

I felt a little bad for my buddy with the Vulcan, but told him he can replace it with the Triumph 1500cc when it comes out.

Oh, and Dickey's has probably the best onion rings in the world.

Get used to it Dennis. And when the 1500 comes out the Harley guys will really be jealous.

You made the right choice ~~ I can't tell you the number of times people have commented on the bike. I usually ride with an expensive Harley Road King ~~ the America always draws most of the attention.

By the way ~~ where is Dickey's? I lived in the CDA area for 7 1/2 years so am familiar with north Idaho.

So what I'm hearing is I need to eat dinner there when I'm passing though in September?

I happened to be in Boise 3 falls ago. Local guy took us to a cafe' just north of old downtown. It was run by a Turkish gent and might have been called the "Turkish Cafe'". Owner/chef used to cook for the UN as I remember. Lunch was very good, but what I remember most was the nuclear-powered coffee served in little porcelin cups . Is it still there?

zoom.......zoom

(tba/sm does gather attention, you have to factor in the delays this causes)

I bought my TBA from a motorcycle cop who rides a Road King they issued. He was telling me people come up to him and say 'wow, you get to ride a Harley'...and he told me he always says, 'yeah, and it's the biggest piece of junk there is'! He said the Triumph was a better bike, although he sold it to me because he had just bought a Harley Peace Officer Editon all decked out. He got such a deal on it being an officer and decided he needed the extra money i guess. I dunno, but i love this TBA he sold me, and yeah, it's a great bike! The first time i rode it, i got waves from girls in cars and waves from everyone really. Felt great.

Good choice on the bike - I have the same scenario - My bud's got a new Vulcan , and everyone comes and ogles over Lola and the Vulcan is invisible . I hate it for the guy , but he had a choice . Robert Frost wrote ".....two roads diverged in a yellow wood , and I took the one less travelled by , and that has made all the difference ."

Don't feel bad Dennis. Some people make the wrong choice. Others.... well, you know what I mean. There's a lot of nice bikes out there but none seem to garner the attention that the Triumphs do. I wonder why?

Yep. We've all experienced this, Dennis, but it's always fun to read about this sort o' thing when it's written so well.

(BTW...I beg to differ, but Margie's Diner in Paso Robles CA definately has the world's best onion rings....bar none!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Same here, a co-worker bought a new Vulcan, went over and "thumped" all the chrome on the bike, 90% of it's PLASTIC....Don't like it....

Dickey's is actually a chain - http://www.dickeys.com/store_locator.html. Their BBQ is ok, the onion rings are amazing. As far as making a stop there when you pass through, I'd probably recommend others if you're making a stop, because you can eat a Dickey's in other places.

If you're stopping for lunch, I'd recommend the Brick Oven Bistro. Get a roasted turkey sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes and corn gravy, or a perogie.

If you're stopping for dinner, hit Gino's Ristorante. The owner, Gino, moved here from Italy about 10 years ago. His family has owned restaurants in Italy for generations, so the food is authentic and outstanding. Not too expensive either.

As far as the turkish restaurant, I've never heard of one here. You can bet I'll be looking it up though.

I thought the guy beside me on the interstate off-ramp was going to rear end the car in front of him this morning on the way to work. She (that lovely green Bonneville) had his head twisted around like that scene in The Exorcist...
At the Barber Museum one of the mass of HD guys made a beeline for Moe and me to tell us in his heavy accent about his old Bonneville. It's just a given that the Triumphs draw a crowd, and, I like it.

Try the fried okra at Dickey's if they serve it there. Don't know, you might only be able to get that in the south! I'm an Idaho native (moved to Texas 10 years ago) and never heard of okra until I moved here. It's yummy!
