This morning,, the sun was shining bright, nice and warm (unusual on the california central coast) and decided I would run to the store,, Bike wouldnt start, Just filled tank last night, but decided to look anyway, and there was a loud hissing when I took off the cap, put cap back on and it started, anyone else have a vapor lock problem like that when just sitting,, sun warming tank, gas expanding??

No, sounds like you have the infamous blocked breather tube. If it was pos. pressure it would push gas to the carb and it would start. You have a blockage of some sort in the breather tube.

There is a small valve behind and below the carbs mounted to the down tube of the frame check that and also if the tank has been off it is very easy to pinch the tube under there when reinstalling.

OK,, You were right,, I have never had the tank off, so I pulled the tank, and that little hose was squashed flat between the tank and mount on the frame, So i squished it back out, blew and sucked through it a few times,,(hmm,, the air flows now) put it back together and took it for a ride around the block,, I could not belive the differance,, started right up without the choke, idles smoother, and a gain in acceleration,, all these things from one little breather hose squashed (im doing my own work from now on, I think the only time the tank has been off was when the dealer installed the tachometer)

What year is your bike? Only the 02s and some 03s need the tank off for a tach.

never thought of that,, the dealer didnt need to take off the tank,, the hose was caught under the mounting stud between the tank and the mount, dont know how it got that way then,, well,, its fixed now and rerouted a little to keep it out of the way,, anothe rone of them things to chalk up to just plain wierd
