Well first of all, those are two distinctly different endevours....BUT, I'm guessin' that the noise that you and dowop(BTW...Dion and the Belmontes were as close to perfection as it got) are hearing the gear whine from the primary. At those certain RPM ranges the "symphony" coming from the bike's left side is most likely due to the straight cut gears located there that connect the power from the crank to the transmission.
