.....snapped my belt going into 2nd. 200 miles ago I put on a new back tire. Did I get lazy when I put my wheel back on and didn't make sure the belt was aligned correctly, or was it just time for it to crap out on me? I'm making sure the alignment is correct this time. -----Bob

By the way, does anyone have a replacement part number for the belt, and where to get it? My Alignment Rod to help me align the back wheel. The short end of coat hanger goes in the hollow swingarm bolt. The hunk of rubber slides on the horizontal section of the Rod to mark the center of the rear axle. Gets me real close and I finish off by counting the adjuster threads with a toothpick. Maybe I should have used this the last time.

There should be a Harley number in the Tech Vault. That or call Brent. I'm sure Brent is cheaper. I think I paid $180 for my Harley belt (that was almost exactly 2 years ago and about 12,000 miles ago - still going strong - knocks on wood).

I use a caliper to measure the slot length in the side of the chain adjuster brackets. Seems to work good and should be much more precise than a coat hanger. Got rid of most of the wobble in my front end, too.
It should take a lot longer period of misadjustment to cause a failure. I think my original belt went at about 8000, but I ran it too loose its entire life.
