Well, I pulled them off tonight with no fuss. Although I discovered my "adhesive remover" was also paint remover. I put some light scratches on one fork while scrapping off the tape with a finger nail. Ooops. I think it should buff out.
At least now I know what to use if I ever want to strip the paint off the front forks.
