Well folks got me a 2008 America today, a few differences from the 2007 model, the biggest change is the Tank a lot lower and fatter also no knee pad indents- all smooth, it's a lot more comfortable all round I reckon. Dealer plugged the AI rejetted the carbs and took ou 1st. baffle & drilled the second.Sounds great not too loud but throbby. Didn't think they could improve on 07 model but they have. Hoffo.

Sure would like a picture of that tank. I have an 2007 on order for October delivery-but want to look at the 08, If I can-really do not like the idea of no knee pad indents.

Soren, I asked my dealer the other day bout the carbs/EFI question & he assured me that it was just a rumour for the moment anyway. Hoffo

I have to agree with you on the pads. To me it dosen't seam right to have any Bonnie with outknee pads. In fact it was the first accessory I bought for my Speedy.

Nice looking bike...I like it.
I do like the new wheels, and the pipes. I might even venture into my local triumph shop and see how much they would be to put on my 03.
Question....what car is that hidden under that tarp in the background?

Cant say i am familiar with that car. But it does saden me when some one has a antique car or bike and lets it rot. Either restore it or give it to some one who will.

Hoffo, You picked a fine motorsicle! I love those colors and don't worry about the naysayers on the tank - they're just being resistant to change!
I'd like to see a close up of the tank badge when you get time.

starting to show the oriental influence with that tank. Shapeless and plain in my opinion. It needs the knee pad indents to give it that Triumph personality.

Well said Dog. I know that every one has there own likes and dislikes and if you love the look of your ride then right on!,,,,,but,,,I my opinion the biggest part of a bikes look is the tank, which I'm sure is the reason for some of the responses. In my opinion it wasn't broke so why mess with it. I would rather sacrifice 1/2 gal or even one gallon than have a tank look that wasn't me. So if this is a permanent change and I got one down the road I'll be shopping for the old tank very soon. Just to clarify, if you got an 08 Americal and she revs your motor, then good for you!

It's interesting how everyone has a different perspective, to me it looks like the silhouette of an original bonnie tank just lacking the flat spots for the knee pads (which to me look sort of odd if the pads aren't on). I think Hoffo has a very pretty ride here with a well balanced look...I suspect the tank appeals to the Norton in him as I see that influence in the new tank lines.

I agree with that , if it's what you like then thats great! The rest of the bike looks good and even if the tank doesn't do it for you that can be changed. It's still a Triumph and as long as the quality is still there then you have a great bike.

I like it, I think the tank looks just fine sleek.
It may be just the reflection, but what is that chrome thing right above the headlight.
In your post the dealer discounted the A\I, but the A\I tubes are still in place on this picture.
Nine bike and I like the color.

While you've got a point, I stand by my first impression. But it's just that -- an opinion. And it's directed at Triumph, not Hoffo. It's still a great bike, it just reminds me of how Harley took a fairly distinctive tank on the sportster and replaced with with a blob.
There are two things that make the looks of the Bonneville America iconic - the tank and the engine. Every other design element is fairly generic. One of those is now gone. You may like the new tank but it's far less distinctive.

To me it seems very odd that the bike is an '08 model already. Maybe the demand for new Americas is that great they went ahead with next years model (I think it was the Sprints they ended up doing that with last year, just as quietly too). So maybe the official '08s will have fuel injection? Guess we will have to wait and see.

whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm not dumping on anyones ride, I'm just saying that I don't like what Triumph did with the tank changes. Much like many said about the wagon wheel changes made last year.

I also think it's a shame they went and tinkered with the tank. I have had so many people tell me that they've always liked the trademark indented triumph tanks. I know I do. I hope they bring them back in '09

I too meant nothing against Hoffo or his ride. I just don't like the new tank but as Friarjohn said it's an opinion and thats all. I am sure you love your new ride Hoffo and I hope you get many years of trouble free enjoyment out of it.

Still a great looking bike. The only noticeable change appears to be the tank. If they keep drifting from the "classic" looks, I may be keeping my 05 America after the 1500 comes out. I like my knee pads and indents and also like my wire wheels.
No matter what anyone thinks, you'll love the bike.

Did I not warn you all that the tank was changed for next year??? or that the badge was gonna be different? Or that the EFI was gonna look like carbs still??
Well. That's the shape of the tank that I saw (but IMHO the tank looks better in black with a red swoosh) and the badge looks better in real life.

On the tour I specifically asked about it. The bloke doing the tour said the EFI was based on the carb body, but EFI inners.

Any pics around from the back of the bike looking towards the front? I'll reserve judgment until then on the tank, but it is a bit disappointing that they didn't do away with the plastic console. That would've looked better with their more regular Bonneville shaped tank it looks like they're trying to emulate.
