I love the look that the freak kit offers without installing the side covers to make it look like the stock airbox, but when I saw the price I almost flipped! My question is this...Can I just buy and install the Pre filters sold by Brent and adjust carbs accordingly? Do I have to mod the carbs somehow to get these on or are the slip/clamp on? Or do I need to buy the freak? I am cheap...ok, maybe not cheap-just poor. Army doesnt pay too good these days. Thanks

the filters are readily available. Look up ghetto freak. if you cut the air box right you can get the same look as the freak and use the same filters but all you have to buy is the jets and filters. savs quite a bit of cash. Others have done other things too without keeping the origonal side covers and cheese graters.

If you remove the airbox and just add the filters get the carb brace.

Or here http://www.bellacorse.com/bce048.htm once Mike heals up. Others have fabbed 'em from turnbuckle parts, etc.

you can also save a ton of money and just get a turn buckle from the hardware store. That makes a great carb brace.

Thanks guys, do you know how long the turn buckle needs to be? I guess I could go out and measure it myself, just curious.

the turnbuckle itself, without the hook screws is like no more than 3" or so....the span is like 5"or6"...you basically put a nut and bolt through the hole thats already drilled into the motor mount, and then it angles down to hook around the carb bar piece. Im sure if you just glance at the distance you'll know what youre looking for instantly. I got the one with a hook on one end, and and eye hole on the other..so i can just hook it under the carb and then use the eyelet for the bolt into the motor mount. Im pretty sure i used a 1/4" bolt and nut.
Its pretty fresh in my head cause I just added it last night...ahha....
I actually ran my turnbuckle behind the motormount if youre looking at the right side of the bike...(between the mount and the frame)...that way it sorta stays out of sight cause part of the frame hides it on the left side of the bike.

Go to K&N website and do some measuring on your bike and they can get you pretty much any shape, style or size you might need. This is where I got mine for the mikunis I run.

There are mounting tabs o the FREK kits. I put mine inside the air box and ran a zip-tie around them.

Don't forget, there are some things such as the starter solenoid hanging on the right side of the airbox. You'll need to make something for them to hang on or else relocate them.
