It would be cool, but will it turn out to be more like a gb500, or new pontiac GTO, or new beetle, or new ford thunderbird.... oh you get the idea.... trying to be something its not?

i'd much rather have the original. I must confess to having a real soft spot for the 1970's/80's multi cylinder UJMs. I do like the sound of this though Quote:

Everyone is still attempting to do teh retro thing. The thing I really like about our bikes (The Speedmaster and America) is they are not retro. They are classic. They are completely individual from anything else ever built but carry the herritage boldly. Hmmm... maybe that is what people are really after. Not so much retro, but herritage, but they do not know how else to obtain that except for recycling old ideas.

Definately a worthwhile addition to the Honda stable at least they will make them in Japan and not Thailand?

That's what I liked about the cafe racer. Retro/custom styling with an updated purposing of the power plant. I realize that's a niche market and that's not Honda's thing, but it's a fun fantasy bike.

Actually, they will probably make them in America at one the biggest plants they have but I get your point. The VTX and Gold Wing are made in Marrysville Ohio. Like everything retro, the biggest market will probably be the Americans. They will buy anything

Not neccesarily true. In the August issue of Cycle World, they had an article about the bikes on the streets of Japan. Most of the new bikes the Japanese are releasing to the public in Japan are retro styles. The article also said that more than likely most of them probably would not be successful in the U.S.

I must be ahead of the curve here. Does my '82 Nighthawk 750 with 7200 miles on her make me retro-cool? Nah, just an old guy on an old bike. For a 25 year old bike she is fast, smooth and very comfortable. I took the wife out for her 1st ride and she liked it better than the Speedmaster for comfort(and yes, I did have the tour seat on the Speedmaster). As much as I like the old girl(the Honda), I still mourn giving up my Speedy. I look at the plate and it just doesn't look right. That number belongs on a black and yellow Triumph  . Mike Sr.

Conversation about the 750 with a Harley rider. Me:Did you here Honda is considering building a Retro CB750? Harley guy: ya thank they'll sell any of them? Me: I think they would sell a lot of them. The 750 is the father of modern day motorcycle technology. Harley guy: I don't know everybody like them v engines ( he makes the v symbol with his arms). Me: retro's pretty hot these days, the new Bonnie,the new Bug, the new Mini Coop, the new Mustang. Harley guy: yeah but everybody wants a V engine. Jeez,these guys really do have blinders on.

Bike night at Quaker Steak and Lube last night. In a sea of HD's, a nicely done early CB750 was drawing a crowd of midlle-aged riders(okay, old guys like me). Lots of smiles and nods of recognition made me think of this thread. I think Honda is on to something.

Honda's retro Nighthawk 750 of just a couple years ago wasn't a big seller in the States. I think the only standard across-the-frame four UJM that had any sales success here recently has been the Kawasaki "Eddie Lawson Replica", and maybe the Suzuki Bandit. The Big Four sell a heck of a lot more sportbikes and yes, V-twin cruisers than they sell of their "standard" UJMs here.
And as Soren stated, in Japan, this "retro-standard" craze is hot, but not so much over here. Americans in the last few years have voted with their pocketbooks, and this style of bike just doesn't seem to have much of a following, and this is why Japan Inc. has been wary of importing many of the home market machines into the U.S. for some time.
And so, Mike's scenario at the Harley dealer isn't that preposterous, and the Hog salesman isn't that far off from being right.

That is so true. A couple of months ago Motorcyclist did a article on Jap bikes that are not imported to the US. There was some really nice looking Standard bikes. Some make it to Europe and some are for their home market only.
Shame, there was some really nice looking bikes on show. But i am bias. I have always had a soft spot for the old air cooled UJMs, classic or retro.

A mighty fine job you done of the collage too - gave me an idea or too.
The only thing that gave it away straight away was the green grass in the background between the cylinders.
Weather in Brissy is perfect - temp is 26 C and not a cloud in the sky - I'm putting the visor tonight and anticipating putting bout 500miles this weekend - the Gods are smiling!!

I'm with birchr, I would like to have one in my stable. It would make me feel young again "1974 I had a Triumph 750 trident and a Honda 750 Four" don't remember if it was a CB or not. Now if Triumph would only bring back the Trident triple!

All this talk about a bigger midsize cruiser. My vote would go for a larger TBA with a 1200cc air cooled triple. I cant think of many things that would make me trade my TBA in, but for one of those....OH YES.

Thanks, it was a rush job another 10 minutes and that grass would've been gone but by then the boss would've been on to me...

Oh, I don't know...My first bike was a Kawasaki H-1 triple cylinder two stroke air cooled 500cc road rocket...it's been done, and done well...

Suzuki had a range of air cooled triples, GT 380, GT 550. Yamaha had their XJ 750 triple I think it was an XJ), also aircooled. Very nice bike as well. Kawasakis 250, 500 and 750 were air cooled triples, and im sure there are others. Admittedly most of these are two stroke. But i dont see it being a problem. I dont think the question is can it be done, i think its would they want to.....probably not.

I purchased a new Suzi GT550 in 72. I wanted the Triumph Hurricane setting in the same showroom. I could kick my butt for not buying the Hurricane. Finances dictated my decision. I was young and dumb and probably would have sold the Triumph just as I did the GT.
Anyway I loved the GT550, fast as lighting and very dependable. I still roam the want adds and fleabay looking to find another GT. 1972, ah yes.

That green grass between the jugs on Eds Vincent is the mini garden he planted there. It isn't the ground behind the bike!
I was talking to a guy yesterday that is thinking about selling his cherry CB750 to buy one of our bikes after seeing Wendys bike and asking me a bunch of questions.

It was a GT 750, and a very nice bike indeed, my brother had the GT380 in the 70s well for a few months and then wrote it off. Hit a car which pulled out on him. All this talk about CB750's made me think about it and guess what will be parked next to my America in a few days time.  1996 CB Seven Fifty F2, very low miles for year just under 17,000
