Has anyone ever tried relacing the front wheel on an America with a 21" rim?
I'd like to put a larger front wheel on my America, but with the speedo being in the hub I'm not sure how to go about doing this.
I thought perhaps if you could relace a 21" rim with the stock hub and possibly change the gears in the hub for the speedo if you could find them.
Any thoughts?

How does something like that effect handling?

Larger Diameter wheels will smoothe out the ruts a little better and they look great. Hoffo

I don't know from personal experience but I do remember favorable reviews from the people whose bike pictures I posted. Maybe one or more will chime in.

Smoother ride. And, yes, they look great.

Don't most Harleys come with 21" front wheels these days?

Identical diameter wheels will track in the same arc of rotation , when you mix them , the smaller diameter wheel will follow a tighter arc than the larger wheel . In a curve they tend to follow different arcs and "fight" against each other , resulting in a less than harmonious turn . Notice sport bike wheels as opposed to a bar hopper .
The Vorlons have a saying , "We are masters of rotational applied physics" .

At the risk of being labeled an agitator, I have to point out that the tire profile plays a big part in this and that the circumference is the more important number than the diameter of the wheel in this equation.

Thank you John. You have always complimented my ride. And...If I EVER meet you can ride it. Dwight got to ride it and scraped the pipes(Dwight is a maniac..none the less I would let him ride my bike ANYTIME...he can grind the pipes down to nothin anytime he wants....). I told him to ride it like it was his. The CR carbs and Nology ignition have REALLY made a difference(see my pictures). Now...for the 21" front wheel. You will re-use your front hub and you don't need to change the speedo "gear". A good wheel shop will hook up with Buchanan in Socal for the front wheel. There is no offset but the wheels will need to be custom drilled per the goofy Triumph spoke count. I lowered the front 2"(chopped the spacers...no folks..it doesn't bottom out)and the rear 2 1/2"(Hagon 12" and the 17" wheel). Handling: I liked being closer to the road. Some people won't. I had to 're-learn' the handling but have handled the Angeles Crest Highway(really windy..250ft to 5000ft in 37 miles) with no scraping problems riding at a pretty decent clip. The key is the rear wheel which is a 17"x5-1/2 mounted with a 200cm rear low-profile tire. PM me with more detailed questions. There is a lot of detail. The steering geometry must match up and it is all dependant on the correct lowering of the bike;front/rear wheel size; and the correct tire size. Have fun...Doug/SoCal

Dear Agitater you know that circumference follows diameter wherever it goes , they are directly proportional . Where all this is concerned , the actual circumference of the rubber that is in contact with the road would apply , true , not just wheel diameter . The Vorlons concur .
