Electronic cruise control for $110. Don’t know anything about it. A Concours owner buddy is considering getting one. If he does, I’ll post details.

Heck, I might consider that one myself.
The darn Break Away is $215 when you can get a Vista Cruise for $30!

Interesting... I just read over the material and I see that it is controlled by a vacuum servo. A concern would be if this device stuck open. You'd be stuck with a wide open throttle!!

I am going to have to do some research.....

That is how cruise control was done in the olden days on cars.

Yep, helped a friend install a cruise control many years ago and it had a vacuum servo as the throttle control.

Spent a bit of time researching and the only failures I can find are related to the vacuum servo not working (leaks, diaphram shot, etc.). I found nothing concerning sticking WFO.

With a little engineering, it looks like this could be made to work rather nicely on our bikes.

I also looked around for more information concerning this mod and found these:

Maybe it's just and engineer thing or something, but I've always enjoyed working my bike. I've always felt that, when I get so lazy as to start automating it, I will just hang it up.

I'm with ya Greybeard. I can't even come to terms with putting a throttle rocker on my bike, much less a servo cruise control.

It ain't laziness, GB.

Do 500 miles in a day and get back to me about your right hand and wrist. If you can still move it, that is!

With my carpel tunnel I can't ride for very long without a throttle rocker. You guys hang it up anytime you like - I'll still be out there.

I agree. Since I injured my right arm 13yrs. ago I have had problems with it. Sometimes I can ride forever with no problems and other times just short runs and my hand gets numb. I'm not sure if a throttle rocker would be enough for those times, that's why I am looking into a throttle lock.

I agree! If you have arm/wrist problems then you need to look for a little help for that right wrist. I also have Carpal Tunnel and couldn't ride that far without it bothering me. I invested in the Brake Away throttle lock. It's expensive but the best one on the market. Now I ride forever.

Now that I'm getting older, I do take short rides like that once in a while. Last time I went to Sturgis, averaged 75 MPH for 11 - 12 hours a day because I only had 2 weeks I could take off work and I wanted to get there before the fun started, then have a day at home to get ready for work. Having the handlebars set up right and adjusting your grip so your wrist is straight does wonders.

I've done a few 500-550 mile days and I just open up my fingers and apply pressure to the throttle with just the palm of my hand on long interstate stretches. Gives me a chance to wiggle my fingers and thumb to get the stiffness out of them.

I've ridden a Bonneville with a throttle rocker on it. Just felt too wierd for me. I can see why people put them on, along with things like the Vista cruise control. Don't have anything against them, it's just not for me. And who knows, maybe when I hit 60 I'll be making those kinds of allowances. Heck, with my bad knees I'm just lucky to be riding at all.

I've heard of these being installed with great success on several different bikes. It's a bit of a chore, but worth it.

The single thing I miss about my BMW K1200LT is the cruise. I used it all the time. It's so handy when you need your right hand for something while rolling down the road and an absolute must for those iron butt rides.

Well, you're a better man than I am, Gunga Dhin.
----------------------------------------------
I've adjusted the stock bars six ways from Sunday and pain persisted. Jim's Spacers helped but were not enough. I finally went to the buckhorns and Kuryakyn grips and they are a lot better. However, after a couple of hours, my hand, wrist, and arm feel it. Got the Kuryakyn throttle boss and it helps but there still is pain. The throttle boss does allow me to work my hand and wrist around and alleviate it some.

If contemplating a cruise control makes one lazy, I guess I qualify.

btw GB, where can I get a high horse like yours?

Purchased the throttle rocker a few weeks ago and my wrist has not ached since. It's not cruise control but for 10 bucks it really helps.

Really tall ape hangers are very comfortable for long rides once you get used to them. Unfortunately, they are illegal in a lot of states unless you pull them back to meet max height requirements. Some want them no higher that the shoulders or pits, some set a max height above the seat. Guess they don't like the idea of people riding 10 - 12 hours a day and still having energy for a wild party.

With me, I didn't have any problems with my wrist or forearm, I could just rest my palm on the throttle (especially now with the big fat Küryakyn Grips!), but being able to stretch my shoulders and neck without having to pull over every 30 miles made the big fat o-ring worth it. As mentioned in other posts, my pain was just behind my collarbone at the top of my back (the tendon that connects the shoulder and spine), which felt like a knife plunged in, especially on the SECOND 600 (12 hours at 75 plus gas/food stops) mile day on my trip up north! Sorry, but with that much pain, the ride no longer becomes enjoyable, if you're distracted by the constant stabbing pain in your back! Yeah, I want my bike as simple mechanically as I can get it, but I can compromise a little if it will allow me to ride it longer AND enjoy it!!(isn't that the idea folks?)
