Mine was doing that, turned out to be that hidden fuel filter between the carbs. Didn't even look dirty. Can't believe a real engineer would design a filter with so little surface area, and not even mention it in the owner's manual.
The rev limiter shuts the engine off entirely until revs drop down, you will definitely know when it happens.
