 Rev Limiter? Or not enough fuel?

The first time I took my Speedy up to 95mph to pass a truck, I felt the bike fall flat as if it's was out of fuel. Next time I had the bike apart, I checked the plugs, and I have no signs of a lean or too rich condition. Yesterday I tried again to bring up the bike past 95mph, and the same strange thing happened again, bike power just flattened, but I noticed that the RPM's were nowhere near the redline.
What gives?

sounds to me like you are running out of fuel for some reason. Jets too small,partly clogged filter , etc..

I have had the airbox removal kit installed since day 1. I am running a 150 main, that I thought was too rich for my temp and alt, but the plug condition seems perfect. Carbs are synched and air filters are clean

I had the same problem. Someone suggested that the main was too big. I went from 145's to 138's and bingo, problem solved. It doesn't seem to make sense but it worked.

Maybe ran out of sufficient air necessary to maintain the proper fuel/air mixture ratio for full combustion at the higher RPM???? perhaps do to "breathing capability limitations" of the hardware setup?? If you can't supply the necessary air, then you would have to reduce the fuel (e.g.;smaller jets) to maintain the "optimum" fuel/air ratio.

Mine was doing that, turned out to be that hidden fuel filter between the carbs. Didn't even look dirty. Can't believe a real engineer would design a filter with so little surface area, and not even mention it in the owner's manual.
The rev limiter shuts the engine off entirely until revs drop down, you will definitely know when it happens.

Thanks for the info. I thought the main jets might be a to rich, but the dang plugs read fine. Now I have not seen the hidden filter, but I'll look, and I plan to go 1 size leaner on the mains to see if that helps. Will report back.

The hidden filter is in the fuel line right at the tee. I did it with the carbs still on the bike, its real tight in there. I used needle nose pliers with a 90 degree bent tip. Take spring clamp from end of fuel line, slide it up a ways, pull fuel line, filter will be down there in the end of that fitting right before the tee. I installed an in-line up near petcock, heard of some guys depending on petcock filter in tank and not installing any other filter.

Bad idea. The petcock filter filters large crap, not small. There's a reason for the extra filter. I have an external filter on the bench and as soon as I get a chance, my T filter is gone too.

Disconnect the TPS (throttle position sensor) plug attached to the right carburator and check again.I resolved the same issue in my SM 2004.
